Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

Philips convergence Thanks for the info re the resistors. You mentioned that all 3149 to 3160 were the same 1W 6.8ohm. I have checked and found that the original 3156 is different to the others. 3156 sits next to 3164 and is the same as that. I cant see any description on it but it is the same size as all the others but is light blue in the middle and it grey on each end. Should I still replace this with a 1W 6.8ohm? What else could it be? Thanks again for your time.

    Hi Slinteriors,

The two resistors appear to have some writing on them but it is not legible. They do not have any colored bands on them however as I mentioned previously they are grey on the ends (approx 1/3 of the resistor) then light blue in the middle. I cannot see if they are 6.8 ohm. After checking all the resistors in the television, it appears these are the only two of this kind. Thanks again.

often the 6.8 ohm resistors have a code on them 6R8 1w J which means 6.8 ohm 1watt 5% Can you distinguish if that code is on those resistors?

Most likely a repairman - but review the info below to determine

convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Philips 46pp9302 blue convergence not adjusting

Look in the back for large black ICs that are attached to a heat sink. They will be marked STKxxx. First try resoldering the pins on these ICs. If that failes to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. If you can post the exact markings here, I'll detail the possible fuses or resistors that should be checked as well.

Convergance borard

the convergance is located on the ssb board part #313503712271 but it might be cheaper to replace the convegance amplifiers and the resistors. the amps are STK392-120 the resistors are 6.8 ohm 2watt and 10 ohm 5watt. there are 8 of each starting with location 3149 to 3166. check them with an ohm meter to see which ones are open. there may be visible scorching of the bad resistor.

replace ic chips pt# stk392-120 or stk392- 150 and there are 12 resistors located near ic clips pt# 6r8 ( color code blue - gray - gold - gold ) board location no#s 3149 thu 3160 if you look close you may find two resistors discolored as i found on my convergence circut board , also use heat sink compound on new ic chips , take your time to mark all wire connectors going to board from tv , also use .022 dia gage rosin -core solder and a 15- 25 watt soldering iron you may have to adjust the red - blue convergence afterwards my tv set is 3 yrs old also ( thanks holbert )
