Hp officejet 6110 not printing with black ink

I put in a new black cartridge and all was fine for a few pages. Now it won't print in black. The colour cartridge works fine. I tried cleaning the black cartridge and sometimes that lets it print a bit of a page but then nothing.

Mine is doing the same thing. It works fine if I print a "clean printer" page. Just won't use the black ink for my documints. Wierd.

Not printing black. How does one check the print head to see if a new one is needed?

  • viperdoug Nov 14, 2008

I have refilled black cartridges before and everything was fine. But now the printer will not recognize any of my four refilled cartridges. Keeps asking me to press Enter to align cartridge. Test page comes up blank. Tried following instructions included in the NuKote refill kit to reset printer ink level recognition, but to know avail.

I think I know what is the problem. I refilled my black ink cartridge and it printed for a while, but at some point it just stopped working. The head wouldn't touch the paper. Initially I thought the printer had a problem, but then I discovered that the color cartridge still worked.I had a spare new cartridge so I changed it. Everything worked just fine afterwards. My hypothesis is that HP tracks an identifier in the cartridge and does NOT allow you to refill (I even think they simulate for the cartridge to be failing, but I still have to corroborate this). I think this is outrageous and illegal. Please let other people with the same problem know about it.

Hi lilacky-

Here are some HP support links that might be helpful... and a couple questions to consider.

Q: Is your new cartridge one of these listed below?
"The HP Officejet 6100 series and HP Digital Copier Printer 410 products use the print cartridges listed below:
* HP 56 black print cartridge
* HP 57 tri-color print cartridge
* HP 58 photo cartridge (replaces the HP 56 black print cartridge for six-ink photo printing)" info from: Installing a Print Cartridge
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00004340&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&rule=12548&product=79477 Is your new cartridge a refilled cartridge? Some times those have special challenges. Has your cartridge been sitting a while in the box, maybe in a warm spot? Some times even new cartridges dry out a little. Was your old cartridge low or completely gone? Just as a test, if you put it back in your printer does the old cartridge work? Any printer error messages? Can you print a test page or an alignment page for your black cartridge? These might be too many questions but here are some HP support links with some How To information for getting more answers. Please let me know if any of these are helpful. see also: Slow or No Response from Printer

We bought a new genuine HP 57 color cartridge for the HP 6110 and it's not printing any better than the old genuine one that we thought was empty! We ran test pages with both cartridges and they look great, although the old one looks a bit faded in some spots. The point is: The new color cartridge is printing a real pale dim image instead of the actual colors it should print. WHAT IS CAUSING THIS?

What are you talking about? Every HP cartridge contains a new printhead, that's why they cost so much.

The black ink on my Brother DCP-130C won't print and it's a brand new ink cartridge. I thought it was a defected cartridge so I bought another one, same thing. The other 3 colours print ok though....

I have the same problem. Everything on the printer is working just fine. It'll do a test page just fine, so everything's working right. The %$^ thing just won't print. It makes noise like it's printing when you give it a print job, but it spits out blank pages.

The problem is not with the ink-cartridges. You've proved that, by swapping BLACK cartridges.

The problem is that the ink-jets that spray the BLACK ink onto the paper are clogged.
Thus, no BLACK ink reaches the paper.

Open the HP Printing Assistant, and open Utilities, and run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to try to unclog the print-head.

Hp officejet 6110 not printing. Can't get out of "align cartridge"mode.

printer problem call up hp at 1-800-474-6836 and ask them for an upgraded printer which you will get at 50-60% cheaper than the original and its a factory new printer. But it is definitly not free.
What you have right now is a hardware problem and the printer is dying so change it fast while this offer is available

Hp 3820 printer cannot print

there are a few steps to take.... try a few head print head cleanings ... then attempt to print a test page ...next clean the catridge contacts as this fixes lots of problems ... just follow the instructions on the hp support site .... a big problem with underused inkjet type printers is the print heads dry out over time... you can rejuvinate a dry print head by removing it and setting it on a moistend papertowel overnight ... use distilled or spring water... you could also simply replace the colour cartridge
