Admin734's Solution would work but mine may be quicker.

Put your windows cd in the drive and search it for regedit.exe, it should be in the d:\I386 folder. Once found copy and paste it to your C:\windows\system32 folder.

problem should be solved.

I am logged-on as a user that belongs to Administrator group on my laptop. Start, Run, regedit comes up with message "registry editing has been disabled by your administrator". same happens with regedit32.

Sounds like you may have a virus , that is usually the reason your regedit would go missing.

Here is your fix:

  1. Get your Windows XP CD (Should have came with the PC)
  2. Goto "Start"
  3. Goto "Run"
  4. Type in "CMD" and hit enter
  5. A black DOS screen will come up , type the command "SFC /SCANNOW" and hit enter
What This Will Do -
This command checks all of the Windows system files on your computer against the CD to make sure that you have them all and that none of them are corrupt. If you are missing any files it will pull it off of the CD automaticlly......after the scan is done try accessing regedit again....

Also this is usually signs of a virus , so after you get that fixed I highly recommend that you do a virus scan along with a spyware scan.

Descrapplication can not be run in win32 modeibe

To correct and solve this error follow this procedure
Run Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del or right click on Taskbar)
Stop wscript.exe process if available by highlighting the process name and clicking End Process.
Then terminate explorer.exe process.
In Task Manager, click on File -> New Task (Run…).
Type “cmd” (without quotes) into the Open text box and click OK.
Type the following command one by one followed by hitting Enter key
del c:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a
del d:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a
del e:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a
c, d, e each represents drive letters on Windows system. If there are more drives or partitions available, continue to command by altering to other drive letter. Note that you must also clean the autorun files from USB flash drive or portable hard disk as the external drive may also be infected.
In Task Manager, click on File -> New Task (Run…).
Type “regedit” (without quotes) into the Open text box and click OK.
Navigate to the following registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Check if the value name and value data for the key is correct (the value data of userint.exe include the path which may be different than C drive, which is also valid, note also the comma which is also needed)
“Userinit”=”C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,”
If the value is incorrent, modify it to the valid value data.

About folder option

Click on Start - Run and then type:
Regedit
then go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\NOHIDDE N.
There should be two registry entries there:

- CheckedValue : Type: DWORD Value: 2
- DefaultValue : Type: DWORD Value: 2

(Correct them if necessary.)

Now open the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL .

- CheckedValue : Type: DWORD Value: 1
- DefaultValue : Type: DWORD Value: 2

(Correct them if necessary.)

If the problem persists, open Start, Run, type "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll" and
click OK.
reboot the computer.
thats it, have fun :)
