Question about LG RC797T

1 Answer

Cannot Initize a DVD

REFERENCE: THE LG RC797T

I CANNOT INITIALZE ANY DVD DISK, REGARDLESS OF DISK TYPE. WHEN I USE THE REMOTE, THE INITIZE OPTION IS NOT LETING ME USE THAT OPTION. IN FACT, IT IS NOT LIGHTED UP AS THE OPTIONS ARE.

IN THE PAST, WHEN I PUT THE DISK INTO THE SYSTEM IT WOULD APPEAR ON THE SCREEN AUTOMATALLY. NOW, I DO NOT GET THAT OPTION. IN ADDITION, I CANNOT GET A RECORDED DVD TO PLAY AT ALL.

QUESTIONS:
1. IS THERE A RESET BUTTON?
2. IF SO, CAN YOU PROVIDE THAT INFORMATION.

THANKS;
JOE

I have Dish Network and I can't find a Code for my LG RC797T so I can get it to play

I'm assuming you are referring to using the dish network remote to control your DVD/VCR unit. Use the instructions in your Dish Network manual, mine is on page 61, "Setting up using device code tables". Refer to the table of device codes in the back of the dish manual, pg 119, to look up your manufacturer. I used the DVD codes for LG as LG wasn't listed on DVD/VCR combo codes. Try each one until one works. I have the LG RC797T and the third code worked 824. Good luck!

I have a LG RC897T DVD recroder combo. Any one know how to unlock it so it plays DVD from any region in the world.

Same code as the RC797T, except without the Divx support. Option 5 is the one you are after:

Click the HOME button on the remote with the unit in 480i resolution
Click the setup page
Click Start
Click TV Aspect
highlight the 16x9 wide aspect ratio
enter on remote control this coded sequence:
1397139

Edit specific "Options"

Option 2: 35 (enables Divx/Xvid playback)
Option 4: ff (enables Vcd and SVCD playback)
Option 5: ff (enables region free playback (region 0) DVD playback)
Option 6: ce (enables Insignia brand startup logo on boot)
Option 6: c0 (enables LG brand startup logo on boot)

LG RC797T Won't read disks

I had this problem last year. It had to be sent back to the company to replace the entire dvd unit; however, I found that it probably had been caused by electrical surges. Once I got it back after repair (replacement) I put the best possible surge protector I could buy on it and have not had a problem with that issue again. The idea of a surge problem came about because I blew 3 Onkyo stereos while still in warranty several years ago and they did the same thing- would not read discs, would say no disc, etc. & the protector ended the problem.

This sounds most likely like a bad mech assy (bad laser) only drawback is that LG does not sell just the laser but the entire mech as a whole (laser motor and case) which I belive runs around 140 to 160 from Andrews electronics

LG RC797T Region Unlocking Codes

Purchased two of these VCR/DVD recorders (for the ATSC-digital tuner) in March 2007 at Best Buy. They play PAL/region 0 out of the box. To enable region-free playback I used the CD-ROM previously made for my LG LST-3510A. Visit this link for the files to burn your disc:

http://aiwaownersnetwork.tripod.com/pages/lg/5000_series_firmware.html

Next:
--Power on the player and load the CD-ROM
--In a few moments a text box appears displaying current DVD region and a second line to change DVD region
--Press the number you wish (most likely "0") on the remote control
--Press "Enter" on the remote control
--In a few seconds the player will eject the disc. Remove the CD-ROM from the tray and power off

Upon powering on the player my region 2 and 4 DVD's play fine but Macrovision still remains.

OR

Click the HOME button on the remote with the unit in 480i resolution
Click the setup page
Click Start
Click TV Aspect
highlight the 16x9 wide aspect ratio
enter on remote control this coded sequence:
1397139

Edit specific "Options"

Option 2: 35 (enables Divx/Xvid playback)
Option 4: ff (enables Vcd and SVCD playback)
Option 5: ff (enables region free playback (region 0) DVD playback)
Option 6: ce (enables Insignia brand startup logo on boot)
Option 6: c0 (enables LG brand startup logo on boot)

While having one too many beers my friend managed to use the remote to get to the 'secret' Service Technician Menu for my LG RC797T DVD recorder to make it Region free. This he did mange to do, however his...

In 480p resolution, you highlight the 16.9 aspect ratio from the TV Aspect menu option in Setup and then type 1397139 on the remote. This brings up the service screen with all options and machine information.
Optimal (best) settings are as follows.
1 : f 2 2 : 35 (this is DivX)
3 : 93 (macrovision?) 4 : f f (Vcd/Svcd)
5 : f f (region free) 6 : c0 (c0 = LG logo)(ce = Insignia)
7 : 04 8 : 15
All I can say is Keep these and and dont mess around or you can kill it....
