When I shut down and turn back on, monitor says e-machine. Then VGA comes up. Then the windows startup flashes and goes blank except for the Frequency Out Of Range. To answer your question. bluegreenash...your solution looks very helpful but I am a dork with big D, and have no idea how to do a safe mode start, but i'll look it up and try it. Thanks so much!!!!!

Thank You. Got it into safe mode and goes blank at windows startup and "frequency Out Of Range" comes up again. re-boot and even tried last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked) and that didn't work. got to the windows startup for like 8 sec, the screen went black and the frequency thing. maybe the VGA card is bad? *scratching eyeballs out* Then there is the 9500+ songs he has in there.aaarrrggggg! Well I tried.

If you shut down and turn the PC back on, does the monitor display anything as the computer is booting up?

When your system beging to boot up, start pressing the F8 button when you see the white text on the screen. You should see a menu with an option to boot into Safe Mode. Then follow the instructions provided by bluegreenash.

The PC has been set to use an invalid display resolution,

to rectify this boot PC into safe mode, right click on the desktop (not on an icon) select properties
select the tab for settings, and choose the display resolution 640x480,

then reboot pc into normal mode, then using the same process above , select a more appropriate resolution for your display (remembering to also turn up the colour setting to at least 32 bit)

hmmm, it should work in safe mode.........unfortunately without another monitor (or PC) to test it is impossible to verify if it is the monitor or the pc at fault.... that is the next thing to check

either Test PC by connecting a different monitor

    or

Test Monitor by connecting it to another PC

from these tests you should be able to discover which is faulty.

you won't need to replace the whole computer if it is the PC at fault, just the graphics card

you will most likely need this info to replace your graphics card (see section on compatibility)

Can't get anything on my monitor but 'out of frequency range' But I can't get anything on the monitor to be able to get into the computer to reset the frequency. Help

Restart the computer. As soon as the bios start screen displays, start hitting F8, about once a second. You will eventually get the windows start menu. Use "Last known good..." or VGA mode. Last known good should do it. If not, VGA mode will allow you to get into windows and change your resolution settings, then reboot and get back to work.

My w6409 over heats and shuts off.

This may be resolved by putting a new layer of thermal compound onto the Processor.

You'll need to remove the CPU fan and put a tiny amount (size of a grain of rice) of thermal compound on the chip. When the fan is placed back on it'll spread out.

Once this is done, you may find an improvement.

If not, i'd reccomend buying a better CPU fan.

Keep getting "frequency out of range" meassage

Sounds like there is an issue with the video card settings versus your monitor.

Try the following:

1.) Press F8 on boot and select VGA mode then once into the OS reset the video card options

2.) Try another monitor

3.) If you have video card, swap it out. If you have onboard graphics put a card in

Cheers...please post your results.

Frequency out of range on monitor and blacks out but pc still running

You've selected a screen resolution that is too high for your monitor to display. You'll want to restart and run windows in safe mode with minimal drivers installed and change the settings back to a tolerable level.

Never force a monitor into a mode that it can't display. Although the OS can protect it, if it doesn't, you can destroy your monitor.

Select 'only show modes this monitor can display' in the properties of your monitor inside display properties to ensure that this doesn't happen again.

Emachine W6409 will no longer turn on

Your hard drive is probably crashing or has crashed. You need to start your computer with an XP CD and try to use the repair function. You'll be able to tell if the hard drive is still working or not once you run the repair function. Let me know what happens or if you run into any problems.

Emachines t2865

Most Monitors. Have A Seperate Power Cord.
They vary in shape and size. 2 pin 3pin et,c.
Have a good look at the back, and check. you should have a power connector socket inlet. And a cable out socket, to connect Monitor To Sound Card On The Back of the Desktop.
These can be located on the back underside of the monitor.
if in doubt search for your monitor make and model on the net, and try to get some instructions.
hope this helps Mike.
