2. scroll to setup options
3. scroll to lock (DO NOT SCROLL SIDEWAYS)
4. press zero seven times (message appears)
5. press enter
dvd player now region free

Solution #1 worked first try, thank you as I have imported some DVD's from US to Aus for personal use.

Thanks for the solution, the message read [Congratulations! You are now region free]. You can actually reverse the process by doing the above, not sure for what reason though.

Tips for a great answer:
Does not play disc
No disc. -
Load a disc into the tray.
Disc has been
loaded upside down. Place the disc with the label side up.
code does not match region code of the player.
Disc type is
not the correct type to play.
damaged or dirty. Clean the disc or try another.
be condensed inside the unit. Remove the disc and the leave the
power on for one or two hours.
See the diagram attached.and if the problem persist. Lube the plastic parts with small grease or vaseline very carefully
