IPOD Shuffle Will Only Load 8 Songs

Hi,

I have a 2nd gen IPOD Shuffle. It has worked fine for a year but now when I plug the Shuffle in, it will only load about 8 songs from my library. The capacity bar is only about ten percent full and the capacity shows 8/250 songs loaded.

I've tried the 5 Rs, I've tried updating itunes but the same 8 songs will get loaded. And I can't drag and drop any in either. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion Wiz. Sadly, it didn't work.

First of all I'm running Vista which made finding the format function difficult. Once I did, I got the message "Cannot complete format" several times before I could get it to work and wipe the drive.

After I successfully reformatted, I attempted to drag and drop some songs into the shuffle from the library directly. Of the 20 or so I selected, only about four copied. Syncing was similarly unsuccessful. Lastly, even autofill only selected about 20 songs.

So, it works better than before but for some reason still won't fill the entire drive volume with music.

    Anything else that might help?

Still no joy I'm afraid. Will still only load 20 songs.

Hey, thanks again for the attempt. It turns out that it was actually a authorization issue. Once I selected Authorize Computer, it worked fine! Don't know why it deauthorized in the first place.

Okay plug the shuffle to a windows based computer, then use "Disk Management" to format it, once it is formatted, run the iTunes then perform an update for the shuffle. once completed try to load songs and this should work for you now..

if you have other questions just lemme know.

why not try to use another computer or a Mac to do this, with iTunes 8.0...

the format for vista is under disk management, or "computer" both will work but it will be better if you do it through disk management.

5 r's still did not help, plus formatting, i guess it will be best to contact Apple for further information on this issue that you have, it may be the fimrware or the hardware that's causing the problem.

Ipod shuffle (2nd gen) completely dead

you are still under warranty...take it to the sony apple store...they will fix it /replace it or tell you there is cost if it not the battery (note do not tell them you charged overnight, and for the future do chage any gadgets more than 3-4 hrs) when you do charge over night you are actually shorten the battery life span or overcharge....so as soon as you come home from school, work, whatever cell/ipod or any other device needs to be charge...charge it now and unplug before you go to bed....

Cant get songs onto ipod shuffle.(daughter has ipod touch)

Hi there,
When you go into the ipod section on iTunes, click the music tab, make sure 'sync music' is checked and 'selected playlists:' is also, then check the playlist you want to use. Click 'sync' button

If that don't work go back to the summary tab and hit 'restore' and follow the instructions to reset the ipod, resync and all should be fine.

All the best

IPOD Shuffle deletes songs if I delete them from the music library in Itunes

You have to keep all the songs that you want on your iPod on your computer, otherwise you will get this problem. So if you want song "a" on your iPod it must also be in your iTunes library at all times unless you don't want it on your iPod anymore

The 5 Rs: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore
Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with iPod shuffle. Try
these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved. If one of the following doesn’t
help, read on for solutions to specific problems.
â Reset iPod shuffle by turning it off, waiting five seconds, and then turning it back on
again.
â Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod shuffle in iTunes.
â Restart your computer, and make sure you have the latest software updates
installed.
â Reinstall iTunes software from the latest version on the web.
â Restore iPod shuffle. See “Updating and Restoring iPod shuffle Software” on
page 26.
