What does 'aquire gps signal' mean and how do i fix it? i have a navman s150

It means that your device is trying to locate the minimum number of satellites for a location fix. Once it finds those at least threesatellites with adequate signal strength, it will give you the location you're at.

There's no niid to 'fix' this, because once the satellites are found, the notice will disappear. (At least it should.)

I takes close over 3 minutes for my garmin 765T to locate a sattelite and I leave in a major east coast city. is something wrong with the system or is this normal

Holding the satellite signal strength indicator icon (upper left hand corner of screen) for a few seconds with your finger brings up a visual display showing signal strength of various satellites, accuracy, speed and elevation.

From a cold start - I too have experienced 2 to 3 minute wait times for satellite aquisition, so I would presume this is a normal. I own three different Garmin units apart from the 765T and satellite aquisition times vary on all three, most aquire satellites in under 4 minutes. Traffic on the other hand seems to take a while to load as this is dependent on availability in your area.

When I turn on the unit (new batteries installed) it shows 9 - 11 satelites, but it doesn't acquire any of them. Any suggestions?

if it shows 9-11 satellites, it has aquired them. let it sit for a bit until it gets the proper data for them. if it has just been turned on for the first time or is left off a lot it may take 3-5 mins to figure out its locations.

Make sure it is in its mount. The antenna is in the mount and needs to be connected tight also make sure You have a view of the sky and not parked in a garage that blocks the signal

Unable to aquire satelites garmin nuvi 255 w. flew from newfoundland to toronto. unable to aquire sattelites at toronto.

When you change geographical locations with any GPS it will take a lot longer for the GPS to acquire the sattelites. Hold the GPS out in an unobstructed area and switch it on. Be patient it will acqurie the signals if it was working before you left home.

My tom tom ONe cannot get a valid Satelite Signal just stays wait

If you are indoors then move outdoors to get a signal.

If you are outdoors then move your location by a few yards and sometimes it will suddenly aquire the satellites.

Happens occasionally with my unit. I normally set a route up then start driving and it suddenly starts to work OK.

Garmin fortrex 101 won't aquire any satelites

Does it pick up any at all? you need 3 to get a fixed posistion. If you see one or two picking up then it may be your location. Also try doing a firmware update, I have seen that fix this problem on other units.

Garmin GPS problem

I have a 276C that has the same problem. Garmin has a unit with this problem and is working on a solution. The problem is that the real time clock loses time when the unit is turned off and disconnected from a power source. As a result when you turn on the unit it thinks the satelites are in a different orbit than where they actually are. The unit will continue trying to aquire forever and not find the satelites. You have to select "New Location" from the menu and select "Autolocate" and the unit will start to look for any satelites in view. The unit should get a fix within 15 minutes. This is a very frustrating problem having to reset it every day. There is a new version of firmware (5.3). I don't know if the problem has been fixed with this release.
