Question about Asrock K7S8X-R3 Motherboard

My PC won't work with 3Gb of RAM

If I try to upgrade my memory from 2.5Gb to 3Gb, my PC will not work at all, despite the fact that I am using PC2100 memory, and the memory is recognised by BIOS. I have tested my 1Gb memory modules, and they are good. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

How to know that the ram can match with your motherboard?

This motherboard supports DDR200/266/333 SDRAM
The memory needs to match one of these numbers so:
DDR200
DDR266
DDR333
one of these types will work
This motherboard will support a maximum of 4GB of memory.

I had just one memory module on this motherboard which was kingston ddr, 256mb, pc2100. Then i upgraded my mobo with one stick of pc3200 ddr ram, and it keeps restarting and sometimes it just turns off...

PC 3200 is not supported by this motherboard. It will cause problems. You need to use PC2100 RAM.

What type of memory do i use with this motherboard

You can mix the memory but there is a down side to this. If you install PC1600 & PC2100 the motherboard will lower the speed of the PC2100 to match the slower PC1600 memory. The SY-P4VDA MB uses, DDR266 PC2100, 184p DIMM, 2.5volt memory up to 3Gb. If you wish to buy memory for your board you can click on the link provided for an idea of prices for PC2100 DDR266;

DDR200 PC1600, 184p DIMM, 2.5v, Sync, CL=2

I have an asus k8v-mx motherboard running only 512 mb of ram what type of ram would suit this mother board and could i fit a 1 x 2mb ram instead of 2 x 1mb?

Dear Sir,

*********** board is Asus old p4 Mother board. It supports maximum 1GB RAM of DDR 400(DDR1). According to your post your computer having only one 512 MB working RAM. If you want good purformance you can upgrade your computer by purchasing another 512MB DDR400 RAM and install it on another RAM slot.If your computer have only one working RAM slot, you can purchase 1GB DDR400 RAM & install it on older RAM place. I think it solves your problem.if you have any problem come back with more information. I will try to assist you more accurately.

good luck

Asrock p4s61, tried 1gb pc3200 to max memory to 3gb, won't boot.

you quote one of your memory sticks as being pc 2700 when earlier in your text you qoute pc3200.

Firstly pc 3200 is 400 mhz clock speed memory.Secondly, pc 2700 is 333mhz clock speed and you acnnot mix the two on the same board. Thirdly does your board support 3ghz anyway. If you are running a board at 400mhz, pc2700 memory will not run at 400mhz.

Solution, take out the pc 2700 memory and all will be well.

PC Motherboard Memory upgrade

From Asus tech: Memory 3 184-pin DIMM slots for PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM
Supports up to 2GB memory
No ECC supportThis is only compatible RAM so make sure your new chip is PC1600 or PC2100. If you mis the 2 it the faster RAM will run at the slower chip speed. Hope this helps.

Unable to get 3GB of memory to work on the motherboard

Hi enj1956, according to the manual the MB supports only,
"one" DIMM of DDR400MHz.
See page 2-7 in your manual.
You can use 3, PC2700/DDR333 / 3, PC2100/DDR266 or
3, PC1600/DDR200 to reach the 3GB.
All DIMMs must be the same memory type & speed.

Good luck enj1956!
Any more questions?
Happy holidays!

OS not showing full RAM

Hi Shibbymusic, as with most Asus boards if not all! The MB
A8N-E does not show all of your 4GB memory. See this FAQ;
http://support.asus.com/faq/faq.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=A8N-E&os=17
Like you, I too have 4GB of memory.
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe w/4GB memory only see's 3GB
The bios displays 3GB during boot up & so does windows XP 32bit.
You might want to think about upgrading to 64bit os.
Updating your bios should help as well.
(See A8N-E Bios version 1010); http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=A8N-E&SLanguage=en-us

Thank you for using fixya!

DDR & SDRAM supported?

I suggest you stay within your manual specs.
Your boards memory should not use voltage higher than CL2.5
Below is a link for 1Gb dimm DDR266 PC2100. CL2.5
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80388-1
You can also buy two which would take you to the motherboards MAX memory of 2Gb.
