You did not mention which lens. Some Canon digital cameras will only take EFS lens, others take both EF and EFS. Also there are other types of lens mounts made by Canon.
The Rebel K2 has the Canon EF mount. It is compatible with any EF lenses except the EF-S series. It will also work with third-party lenses that are compatible with the Canon EF series.
You can see the entire current line of Canon lenses (including the EF-S series) at http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/ef_lens_lineup
Canon EOS 500N has an EF lens mount, so all lenses with Canon EF mount will fit. All lenses with MF and EF-S won't fit. If you purchased Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX, then it have EF mount and will fit EOS 500N.
I thought mine was broken but i cleaned off the copper tips on the bottom with a clean eraser very gently, and afterwards i put on the lens and it worked. I would give that a try if you have not already
are your old film lenses FD or EF mounts ?
(Is the old film camera a Canon ?)
EF will fit EFS fine. My expeariance is with the EOS 3000 EF film camera (2002 -etc) and these work fine.
If you have Canon FD, there are some lens converters out there however I have not seen any yet which electrically connect and there is no AF. All Manual focus.
I have used Olympus OM mount adaptors with manual focus to mount older/different mount lenses with some success (As an example).
Best idea is to search ebay for your mount converters.
yes ef stands for electric focus which is what your camera mounting should be check your mounting to make sure its EF and if it is go for it. also the mounting type might be in your hand book
The FT lens mount system (FL system) is not the same lens mount used on today's Canon EOS cameras (EF lens mount). The FT/FL system was used for a very short time in the 1960s, and was replaced by the FD lens mount system. Canon switched to the EOS/EF system in the late 1980s/early 1990s. So the lens will not fit on a Digital Rebel, and because it's 2 generations away from the lenses that do fit I don't think there was ever an adaptor made. Sorry!
