Question about Digital Cameras

The flash unit for my Minolta Maxxum 7000i turns on but no "whine" of a capacitor charging. It goes back off on its on after a few seconds. Pushing the test button has no effect. Is this an owner repairable problem?

This information was very helpful. I did put in fresh batteries and inspected the contacts which do appear to be clean. I believe I have a bad capacitor or control circuit and will look for a camera repair shop like "Kits Cameras" who have fixed my lenses in the past. Thank you Palmyman.

Hello

Flash guns are not normally that easy to repair, and most of the guns for the Minolta 7000i are getting pretty old and parts are becoming scarce.

The first thing to check is that the batteries are good, make sure you are using rechargeable or some of the new high power AA batteries, cheap bulk buy batteries are no good for flashguns.

Second, make sure the battery contacts are nice and clean.

If you still have problems post again but with the model of the flashgun as well.

When powering up the camera, a clicking noise occurs for a few seconds then stops. Lens focus OK but camera will not take picture.

That is the soung of everything, including the lens & mirrors getting locked into place. It's normal. I wore out a Maxxum (after about 9,000 pictures) and bought another.

Camera turns on with a bit of a tremble but shutter locks

I have an 5D with the same problem, It looks like the Anti shake does not initialize properly, The only bypass I found that worked (except for a real repair) is to set the display light timeout for 5 seconds, The standby timout for 1 minute, Turn the camera off, and on again, Wait for 5 sec then the display goes blank, wait for 1 minute then the camera goes in standby, (light from CF card flashed red 1 time) Then touch any button to re-activate the camera and... voila... everything works, including taking normal pictures and the anti-shake !!! So it only takes a minute everytime to startup..

I have a Minolta Maxxum 7000i with a 3200i flash unit. The flash is not working. The batteries are fresh and inserted properly. The control lights on the flash unit light up when I am ready to shoot but...

Can you fire the flash manually? there might be a red button on the flash for you to do this. If you can operate the flash manually, then take an eraser and clean the contacts on both the camera, and flash, then take a Q tip, and a little rubbing alcohol, and whipe down the contacts AND the two contact springs located under the two side rails on the top of the hot shoe. I've had the same problem before. Dirt grease, and grime get in there and prevent full electrical contact.

This is a known issue with a fault with the charged couple device CCD.  If you contact Konica Minolta / Sony in your city they should replace it as a recall.

Minolta Maxxum 5D

The P-channel MOSFET switching the CF power is dead. It is on the little board directly above the battery compartment. SOT23 package, the marking is 338 or something like that. Replace it and it will work.
