I suggest you use the driver from the Lexmark website. You may need to uninstall the existing X4270 driver first before installing the new driver. Click on this link: http://bit.ly/8ZH59T and follow the instructions in this article on how to uninstall the Lexmark software properly. After uninstalling then rebooting pc, check if your Vista is running on 32-bit or 64-bit operating system by going to the Start menu > right click on Computer > Properties. To reinstall, download driver using this link: http://bit.ly/bXGEqm(for 32-bit) or this link: http://bit.ly/bj6mSY(for 64-bit). Execute the file and follow the instructions in the software. If problem continues, there must be a software in your computer(i.e. print spooler) that got disabled hindering the process of installation of the Lexmark software. This may need further troubleshooting. Contact Lexmark technical support for further assistance. Thank you for choosing Lexmark.
go to www.lexmark.com and in the search box type in "6170" and click on the search button.
It will bring you to the page for you lexmark x6170 printer. scroll down and in the drivers and downloads section click on windows vista.
Then on the next page in the recommended downloads area click on the tab that says windows vista. There will be a name of the file you have to download. Click on the download button and let the file download.
Once the download is done, double click on the filename which should be cjrx6100en.exe. Let it run and it should install the software and have your computer recognize the printer.
This is not really a printer problem. The spooler not running is actually a computer problem. A quick non-technical way to try and get it going is to simply reboot your computer (it is a service that automatically loads on startup). If that does not work, right click on My Computer, select Manage, on the left at the bottom select Services. This should open a list of service in the pane on the right. Scroll to Print Spooler, Startup Type should be set to Automatic, if not, change it. If it is shown as Stopped, attempt to start it.
If this does not work you have deeper problems, make notes of any error messages when you try this and then post them.
This sounds like a software problem (in other words, your printer is not the issue). Here's what I suggest:
1) Save whatever you were attempting to print, and restart the computer. Try printing it again. 2) If it doesn't work, try uninstalling the software for your printer, and then re-install it. In the event you don't have the software handy, you can download the driver from this website:
From what you're saying the windows print spooler service is not starting following the installation of your printer (and thereby you cannot print i'm assuming)
try the following to start the print spooler service if it is not already running.
Right Click My Computer
Click "Services and Applications"
Scroll down to "Print Spooler" and double click on it to open up the properties page
where it says "startup type" select automatic from the combo box list
If the service is NOT running, start it by clicking "start"
The print spooler service is started now, and **should** work properly. If the spooler is still not starting properly, then you may have a driver issue and i reccommend uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for your printer.
