So, is it just not starting, what are your errors?

It does sound like a hard drive crash. I'm not sure what triggers them, but It's happened to me often. I touched my external hard drive and it shocked it and died.

If your hard drive is on the floor, lift it off the floor with wooden or plastic blocks. You could've shocked it by walking across the carpet.
OR, it could be bad, old or it could've been jolted around. It's known to happen and they are fragile. Get you a backup program and external hard drive. Have it automatically back your computer up in case it happens again. If you are using 500GB +, be careful. They crash more often is what my repair guy told me.

Hi their Rak,

Basically, never compress the entire c: drive, ie, don't just right click the c: drive choose properties then check the box that says Compress drive to save space - Really! DONT DO IT - EVER! Especially if running bootcamp.

If you compress the System Folder it will screw up your bootup in Bootcamp, or from Fusion or even Parallels Desktop. If you want to compress your drive (which is a good idea), be selective about it. Go into your c: drive and compress only your Docs&Settings folder and the ProgramFiles folder. Anything other than the Entire 'Windows' folder. If you want to compress any of the Windows folder, again be selective and do any folder other than the System and System32 folders. Leave all files in the root of the Windows folder uncompressed.

When it happened to me (yeah! That's how I know!! Oops) the only way I was able to rectify it was to create another windows boot file in Parallels and uncompress it from that. After that it worked fine. Hopefully others can benefit from my experience.

All the best to the best of you all

Mac book pro will not boot from osx dvd

Recovery System

OS X Recovery includes a built in set of utilities as part of the Recovery System. To start your computer from Recovery, restart your Mac and hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R). Press and hold these keys until the Apple logo appears. This indicates that your Mac is starting up. After the Recovery System finishes starting up, you should see a desktop with an OS X menu bar and a "Mac OS X Utilities" window. Note: If you see a login window or your own desktop and icons, it's possible that you didn't hold Command-R early enough. Restart and try again.

Hi, When I switch my MacBook on, I can see a ? mark appears on the screen and that's all it would not any further than that. Can you advice please?

Hmm, seems it can't find the OS to boot (start up) from.
Possible yr hard drive got disconnected some way? That would cause this...

If you have a boot-able CD/DVD, try starting with that (hold the 'C' key down while starting up, which tells it to boot from the CD/DVD drive).

If that boots OK, you may need to reinstall the Mac OS, (which, vs Windows, will not destroy the world as you know it on yr Mac)

Sir i want to load new window in my laptop but im not able to find booting hardware means hardwares though which i can load window at boot time

you need too go into the BIOS and set the boot order so the DVD is picked before the hard drive.
press F2 when starting the laptop to enter the setup - from there you can change the book order.
Please let me know if this helps?

How change bootable device?

You can do this one of two ways

1. with the DVD in the laptop hold down the option button as the computer is starting this will bring you to a menu where you can your boot device.

2.With the laptop powered off again with the DVD in
Press the powerbutton and hold down the "c" key this will boot directly to the DVD

***It sounds like you have your boot device in the system preferences set to your XP disk. You can fix this once you boot the mac partion by selecting System Preferences then selecting Startup Disk and choosing the disk you want to boot the drive with.

IF YOU FOUND MY SOLUTION HELPFUL PLEASE VOTE 4 THUMBS UP (anything less hurts our averages)
Thank you and good luck!

I start the laptop, and a folder with a ? shows up

The folder with a ? is telling you the Mac can't find a startup disk. It sounds like the hard drive is bad. Put your restore disk in the dvd drive and turn the computer on. When you hear the chime push and hold the "c" key. It will boot of the DVD.

After you choose your language, go up the the tools menu and choose " Disk utility" You should see your Hard drive then the DVD. Choose analyze disk and see if it passes. If it does, then choose it as the start up disk and re-boot.

Sound problem

Actually, what you have to get is the Vista version of the High Definition Audio Codecs fom Realtek ....
Insert Leopard DVD for Boot Camp Drivers [if you know how to use torrents then download from here] . Don't auto-run the installer. Navigate to the drivers folder and there you find the individual .exe files files for each driver.
Right click on the RealTek driver and select 'troubleshoot installation'. Windows will ask you several questions, but basically the gist of it is to tell Windows that 'This driver used to work OK in Vista'.
You need drivers of boot camp on mac osx 10.5.4 dvd.then open Drivers folder, you will see RealTekSetup.exe right click then click to troubleshoot compability. A window will apper. You'll se Program Compability click next below. Select "the program worked earlier versions of windows but won't install or run nom." and click next. Realtek Setup will start and install drivers. solution is just this.
Lemme know if this solved the problem...

Yes this is very easy, But first next time make sure you post in the right categories since a sony vaio is not a Mac Laptop,
First you will need a Windows Xp install CD/DVD, you can perchance one at your local retail shop.
You then insert the CD/DVD into you laptops disk drive and boot up, When the screen said, Boot from cd... press any key, wait until it has done its checks and follow the instructions, If all is well and you have done everything right, you will have successfully installed windows XP
