All of a sudden the roller ball won't work when i try to push it down. It works moving it in every direction but when i press on it to select an option it doesnt do anything. HELP!!!!!

It might be a case where the track ball has some dirt or debris underneath it. First, turn the device off. Next, press down firmly on the track ball while at the same time rolling it in every direction. Hopefully that will knock loose any debris. Another tip to try is to wet your thumb with a little water and do the same thing.
If those two options don't work, you may try taking out the track ball and blowing out the slot with some compressed air. Below is a link that shows how to remove and clean the track ball:

Was it Like it when you bought it?? If not, then its probably broken.. it happens a lot with rollerballs.. if you take it back to the shop you bought it from they will probably send it away to be fixed.
It has been in my experience with the 8100 that if you can't scroll a certain direction, there was debris on the roller preventing it from registering the roll. Turn the phone off, press down on the track ball (as if to press a button) roll the ball down (in your case). This may help dislodge whatever debris is caught in the roller. It has worked for me several times. You may want to try and clean the trackball as well with some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip.
If it were a software problem, then I would imagine you turning off the phone (battery pull) would clear this up anyways.
pearls have been know to have the track ball go out on them best bet is to take it to store to have them clean it if you try to clean it and you break the silver ring you void the warranty and will have to pay for whole new phone, in the end they will replace the phone for you
All you have to do is take a sheet of paper with print on it. Take the battery out of you phone. Next do a figure eight motion with the ball side down on the phone about 10 times. There is something on the ink on the paper that will make this work again. good luck
I had the same thing happen. Tried everything to fix it. Finally, after a couple of hours of troubleshooting, I just gave up and went and put in on the charger. When I did that it fixed it. Have no clue why but it did.
i had the same the same issue with my roller ball and found out that some how i got oil or some grease on the ball itself. the way i fixed was i "aggressively" wiped the face of the phone back and forth on a cloth and it dried it up. the roller ball worked perfectly after that. it sounds rough or crude but it works.
First, turn off the device. While pressing down firmly on the track ball roll the ball in all directions.
If that doesn't work, then you may need to take out the track ball and blow it out with compressed air. The link below shows how to disassemble the track ball:
