First check the outlet by plugging something else in it that you know works. If the outlet isn"t working, plug the T/W into an outlet that something else is plugged onto that is working.
Some machines have fuses that blow out for no apparent reason. Some fuses are easily replace by the user and some need to be done by a technition, depending on the machine.
Also some machines have a sensor, so that when the ribbon is at the end, the machine simply quits working.
Any other problem would require the machine to be looked at by a qualified technition.

The power comes on. There's a humming noise but nothing works. The display is interuppted dark lines. It quit mid typing. What's wrong?

Need to get more information. Turn off the machine and wait 5 seconds and then turn it back on. Do any of the lights on the right side of the keyboard come on and or blink? Does the carriage move at all or does the display have anything showing or are there just dark lines? Does the machine beep and if so, how many times? The answers to these questions will help diagnose the problem(s).

Olympia Startype electric typewriter , make a funny noise and won't move carriage. Can not get it to work.

Turn it off and see if the carrier will move back and forth by hand if it will but feels a little gummy spray a little WD40 on the silver shafts that it slides on. If it won't move by hand look for debris in the carrier area.
