The problem is not computer related as the Canon pixma MP830 is a stand alone multifunction printer/copier/fax/scanner. this problem occurs even when not connected to the computer.

  • jjpy76 Oct 03, 2008

    I don't know .What's the berret

  • jjpy76 Oct 03, 2008

No paper jams it just would not start

  • jjpy76 Oct 03, 2008

No the sponge on the purge unit is in place & moving the cart car didn't do anything

  • jjpy76 Oct 03, 2008

no I turned it up side down ( And shook it all about) no luck

  • jjpy76 Jan 04, 2011

I eventually solved my problem .It was a jammed / broken gear in the purge unit. I replaced the purge unit and all was good. It was not a simple job as the purge unit was nearly the first thing to be put in the printer when it was made!!!!!

Effectively error 6A00 means 'Mechanism jam code' and is not computer related.

Most common cause for this is paper stuck inside. Open all the printer doors and check. open the door at the back and check moving the rollers. Turn printer upside down and shake it gently to find out if there is any foreign object inside

This can happen because of a foreign object or paper inside the printer, or one of the mechanisms snaps out of place and jams, or a sensor wrongly detects a jam.

First unplug printer power cable for ten minutes, to drain power completely, and reset the printer in the eventuality that the unit is just stuck with the error code.

Try also holding the start button for ten seconds to reset the printer.

Other trick is unplugging the power and holding start button (if there is reset hold reset button) while plugging back, this should reset Pixma to factory defaults.

Try power cycling the printer as above twice, if it does not work, then remove and put back the cartridge. Try moving back and forward the in carriage on the rail, the ink carriage stuck on the rail, or the traction belt stuck, or the return motor are also common cause for error 6A00.

If it still does not work, it means that the printer has really a problem with the mechanic.

Try all the above once more, just in case, paying attention to paper inside, and checking if ink carriage is stuck.

If it does not unlock use the phone number listed on the owner manual and call a technician.
The printer must be taken apart and re-assembled, and probably some part replaced to fix the problem.

Note: 6A00 is not necessarily a problem with the sheet feed unit, 6A00 is mechanic error, can be paper jam, print head jammed or any other mechanic error of this kind.

Hi,

6A00 is a problem with the sheet feed unit.

The print head carriage would have been stuck and try manually moving the carriage a few times and the problem would be resolved.

Try blowing some compressed air around hoping to clear any foriegn objects.

Notice whether some piece of torn paper lodged inside.

Hope my info solves your problem........
Thanx for using fixya.

Hello,

You have a stuck print head wiper blade.

When the printer starts up, a white squeegee device wipes the print heads off and frees the head from any gunk build up from the previous printing jobs.

If the printer hadn't been used for a while the wiper can get more or less glued to the print heads.

You will need 99% Isopropryl Alcohol, q-tips, paper towels. A flashlight, Old newspaper.

Turn off the printer and unplug it from your power source. Place several sheets of the old newspaper under the printer.

Open the top lid. Move the print carriage to the left. Using a flashlight locate the white wiper blade squeegee. Wipe this area down with the Alcohol and Q-tips. It will take several attempts. If the wiper blade seems glued, use a flat head screwdriver to gently encourage the wiper to release towards the rear.

Once the above is done, soak a paper towel with the alcohol and wipe down the print head rest assembly and print carriage down to clean everything of ink. This includes any waste pad you see that are quite full of dry ink. If needed you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to get the waste pads out. Place them in a disposable bowl and pour alcohol over them . Once soaked through take them out and squeeze them dry.

Move the carriage to the right replace the cover lid, plug the printer in and you are ready to print again.

Good Luck, and let me know how you make out.

6A00 is a problem with the sheet feed unit.Move carriage back and forth manually. If it still doesn't work then checking and cleaning paper feed might help. Also make sure all rollers are free. If none of this works some people have reported that they fixed it by turning the unit upside down.. May be worth a try before sending it off for service..

If you had a recent paper jam that caused that error code to show up on the LCD screen, you need to have it serviced.

Dear JJPY,
you may have damaged one of the paper fill sensors when you took the berret out, take it to a Authorised Service centre.

Hi,

6A00 is a problem with the sheet feed unit. try to on/off the printer......change the position of the printing head.....the cartridges.....
If you see on the right (inside printer)...a small 1/4 cm rectangular "hard sponge" in a unusual place try to replace it
Then change the position of the cartridges again

6A00 is AP position error.First, make sure there is no paper jam anywhere in the machine.. look inside, rear, where the paper tray (output) is, etc to see if you find any shreds or torn paper that may have gotten stuck and you didn't see.Look carefully in the zone of Purge unit, using flashlight in the right side on printer. If this not help your printer need service.

Hi
Error 6A00
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.

Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

Solution 3:
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.
