Yes! this is very helpful. Do you recommend calling a repairman to replace the IC's or is this something I can do myself?

  • bhovet1 Oct 03, 2008

Thanks again for the info. This is really helpful. I wish I were in NC I'd definitely give you a ring. I'm in Denver. How expensive are these to replace?

You need to call a technician unless you have experience soldering. Both IC's have about 20 pins to unsolder\solder. To find the IC's you remove the back. The IC's are screwed or clipped to large finned heat sinks because they get rather hot...hence why they go bad. They will have writing on them that starts out " STK-" and then numbers. They are pretty easy to spot. If you're in North Carolina let me know. I'm for hire! :) Good luck.

Convergence IC's run $15 to $30 or so each( that's your cost if you get them yourself ) and $6 or so shipping. A service call will be $60 to $80, I'm sure, and they'll want to charge you labor for 1 hour. It should take a repairman no more than 1 hour total to install your IC's provding that you already have them and hand them to him when he walks into your home. Hope you have fun out west. I lived 5 years combined in Vegas and Reno in the 90's. I had a blast but always come home to Carolina. Thank you very much for your help with the good review!!!!

This is a convergence prioblem that can be as simple as poor solder connections at the convergence ICs or defective ICs. In any case, to provide details, I will need the model number. Can you please update this and confirm that the model number is: 60PP9202? ALso, please indicate whether or not you wish to attempt the repair and I will provide additional instructions as well.

Thanks,
Dan

Replace the 2 convergence IC's. They are mounted to large, finned heat sinks. The # on them will start off with " STK". They have 20 pins or so. They are available at tritronicsinc.com. Good Luck!

Call a technician to recalibrate your color guns. They usually need to be recalibrated yearly, lately. Many times the cost of getting it service exceeds the value of replacing it with a new one.
