Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Toshiba 52HM95 52" DLP TV. When I came home this weekend, I hit the power button but the TV would not turn on. The TV is powered and a green LED light blinks 3 times repeatedly, goes off, and then starts blinking again. I took to a local TV repair shop to diagnose the problem as I was convinced it was a lamp balace or color wheel issue (the lamp itself was okay and not blown/burned out. However, when I called the tech today he said the TV had a faulty DMD(Digital Model Display) that needed to be replaced and the part was $850. He said it wasn't worth fixing and that the TV was worthless. He said either I could pick it up or he would throw it away. I'm suspicious he's hoping I'll tell him to keep the TV and he can salvage it for parts. I've scoured the web and can't find a "DMD" part or anything like it... Not to mention, all parts I find are $450 or less straight from Toshiba. Any idea on what the real issue might be and how I should proceed?

Many LED TVs and other electronics have bad capacitors on their power supply boards. You can visually inspect them by opening the TV and looking for capacitors with bulging tops. If you see any, replace them all in the power board section. This should fix the problem. Check to see if your TV is still under warranty first though.

My Toshiba 62HM95 62 in. HDTV DLP TV won't turn on...the green and red lights under the power button remain on and the red light flashes. How do I fix this?

Most likely, you need to replace your DLP bulb. The one that comes with your TV will last a few years max. The replacements seem to only last about a year. D:

I would first suggest removing AC power to unit for several minutes in order for unit to reinittialize; other than that, check out the power supply to determine if you may have a blown primary fuse or lost one or more voltage sources.. thats where to start....
