Ryobi gas trimmer

I prime my ryobi gas trimmer. It starts for about 5 seconds. I prime it again and it does the same thing. It never runs more than 5 seconds.

i also have a 725r trimmer. i checked the plug; wet but clean. dried it, cleaned it and re-installed it. oil/fuel is mixed correctly, air filter also clean. i replaced the 2 fuel lines also. however, this trimmer has sat for 2 years. it fires and runs for about 2-5 seconds, then just stalls. it will immediatley restart, so i doubt its an empty fuel bowl. any ideas?

I too have the problem of the engine starting and then stalling out. My gas is fresh, the oil/gas mixture is correct, I replaced all of the fuel lines. My only concern is that I may have possibly crossed the fuel lines but I can't find any schematic (it's not in the owenrs manual) to show which line goes where so I can verify if I reinstalled them correctly. My last step will be to replace the spark plug if the fule lines are installed correctly.

I have the same problem. I brought it back to Home Depot after having it for 10 months (used it maybe 5 times) and they sent it off for two weeks to be repaired. (Replaced an ignition module) Two months later (Out of warranty) I had to argue for 30 minutes before they finally agreed to just give me a new one if I would just go away. Well it worked one time and now it is exhibiting the same problems. I don't buy the gas suggestion since I use fresh gas with no ethanol. This trimmer is a piece of ****. And now I have no recourse because my receipt is dated May of 2007.

I don't mean to over simplify this, but are you using fresh gas? Gas string trimmers are extremely ticky when it comes to gas. They like it SUPER fresh. And while the gas and oil mixture should be right, it can be off a little bit and still run. Try draining all of the gas out, and then filling up with fresh mix. This is ALWAYS my first step with string trimmers, and it fixes the problem 75% of the time.
Hope this helps!!

I have the same problem. I have the ryobi expand it string trimmer. I had the previous version of this same trimmer that ran perfectly for 14 years -- never had to send it off for service. However, one of the fuel lines finally broke. I was going to send it off for repair but found out that the repair costs were about the same as buying a new ryobi trimmer. So, I opted for the new trimmer. After three months of torture (kept stalling), it started leaking gasoline and I took it back to Home Depot. The replaced it with a new ryobi trimmer. I just took it out of the box today, and bought new gasoline and of course mixed it with the 2-cycle oil (ryobi brand).Argh... It is dying constantly and won't run more than a minute or two at the most. I'm worn out from trying to start the stupid thing. I'm very disappointed. And, of course, I already tossed out my old ryobi that I could have repair with less misery. Another disappointing thing about the new ryobi is all the plastic. It doesn't seem to be as well made or durable as the previous generation. I'm off to Home Depot.

Starting up Ryobi Petrol Strimmer

full choke on , push petrol bubble 5 times then pull starter cord., with luck it will kick in to life after a 20/30 secs put on half choke , run again for 30 secs the no ckoke.

The main problem with Ryobi products is that they flood very very easly. So the more time you try and pump petrol into the carb the more it will flood . If that happenes then choke off and switch off and then just pull starter cord for about 30 secs then switch on and it could start if not prime it again as above good luck

Husgvarna string trimmer stahls.

Try getting some carb and choke cleaner and spraying down the carb. You might have some varnish in the carb and it won't let the fuel flow properly. My ryobi 4 cycle trimmer does that every year. I clean the carb and it usually runs decently.
Good luck

Runs only briefly after priming

Yes, Depending on how old your trimmer is, one of two things is wrong. Either the carburetor just needs a very good cleaning, or you need to purchase a carb. kit and replace the small screen, gaskets, and needle valve. It would probably be good idea to do both if your trimmer is more than three years old and if you have never replaced parts on carb

Ryobi 790r gas trimmer

I can think of three possible causes that would be a good place to start looking:
- clogged tank ventilation, causing vacuum in the tank during use (check for this when opening the gas tank cap, you should hear a "suction sound" and the engine should prime and start afterwards)
- clogged fuel filter
- fuel filter/ fuel hose is not moving freely inside the gas tank causing it to **** air in some operating positions.

Good luck!
