Beeps and computer not reading USB port

I plug my simpledrive into the wall and the usb port. It makes several beeps of one tone, several more of another, goes back to the original tone and stops. The computer then is not recognizing the USB port. I have had the external hard drive for around 1 month

    my iomega drive has two plugs. When I plugged both usb cables: Power and Data it started beeping. Funnily enough when I just plugged the data cable it worked just fine.

    the same my labtop shuts down while i was watching a movie and when i replug the maxtor one touch a beeping sound comes on and the labtop doesn't read the external at all. help a us soldier in need of his movie after missions.......

How do I get my computer to recognize my simpletech hard drive?


For Windows XP and later, or Mac's OS9 and later, it should auto detect when it's plugged into a USB port. Large drives can sometimes take a little while to be detected, shouldn't take longer then 45-60 seconds, unless you're having other problems with the USB port. If it doesn't work in the first USB, try a different one, preferably on the back of the computer (some computers have front USB ports that aren't the same quality, power, and speed as the rear ports). If it doesn't work in a second port, try it on a different device that can read from the USB (another desktop or laptop, and some tablets and phones can do this).

Will not boot, blue light flashes, makes beeping sound


Try a different usb port. Try using it on another computer. If both fail, then the drive has gone belly up.

the beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk and remains active until turned off.
make sure that your RAM is securely seated,
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you should see a yellow question mark?
right click to reinstall drivers
when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable just replace the cable of the hard disk everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

I would unplug the external drive then shut down your computer. Plug the drive in(be sure the USB port is in good working order.)Turn the computer on. If it does not recognize the drive search online for tech support for that particular drive. Install any drivers or software. Be sure to find out if the drive is compatible with your operating software. Make sure all connectors are seating firmly and correctly. Make sure that everything is plugged in where it should be plugged in.

Simpletech 160gb


I would guess you are useing USB.
If correct, try a differant USB port.
The USB port you are useing may not be configured for USB2 speeds.
