Why does door open too far and is not horizontal to the floor when open?

Besides spring streaches out over time or one rope breaks. Their are like three spots to hook spring to get tension for door. I just replaces both ropes as one broke and hooked springs in middle hole. Takes more time to pull washer out then to replace the ropes

Door malfunction

a door spring or the linkage that goes to the door is loose or broken on one side. pull the dishwasher out of the cabinet partway so you can see the where the door hinges are. you should be able to see what the problem is. compare both sides, one will be ok the other will not be tied to the spring.

The door on my Frigidaire dishwasher recently began opening too far. It slants toward the floor, a few degrees past level. Looking at it, however, nothing seems to be broken or missing. The springs are...

I have the same problem. The springs look intact. Maybe some stepped on the door when it was opened and it stretched the springs. I'm going to replace them and see what happens

The door on our dishwasher no longer opens gradually, it slams to the ground. I think it is the hinge or spring mechanism but I don't know what I need to replace.

You need to open the washer and then remove the side pannels (sometimes you must first unscrew fro back and the front bottom of the washer). Some have sprinngs that just unhooked and some have springs and nylon rope etc attached to the door spring that breaks). Only by opening will you be able to physically see the problem.

Door opens all the way down does not stop

The door is very simple as you already know. The only adjustment is with the springs. If they are in place and the door still drops too low (and probably very quickly stopping with a jar) then the springs are over stretched. This does happen over time.

Take one off and go to a hardware store. Look for ones slightly shorter to replace. Springs are springs so if they fit you are good to go. Or go to a parts shop and purchase replacement parts.

Please rate if this helps you.

Door drops hard and i have an error code 7 -

The door slamming open is a broken spring/springs. They are very easy to replace - remove the screws holding the dishwasher in... pull out slightly and replace with good ones on the sides.

Can you clear the error code by shutting off power to it?

(Mdl # helps)

The door to my dishwasher swings open to fast

You will need to bring the DW about 8-10 inches out from under the counter to access the door springs on the side of the unit.

Any questions, let me know

Door won't open slowly

Hi barrianne,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

You're asking: On my Kenmore elite, on opening, suddenly the door just slams to the bottom without the gradual opening that it had before. And you have to really close it -- previously it would stay ajar 2 or 3 inches but now it will open all the way. Whatever was holding the door up and not in the down position is now kerplooie. Any suggestions?

You're not alone! This is very common. It is usually easy to repair if you have the technical skill and tools to remove the d/w to allow access to the springs on each side and properly reinstall. I don't recomend it to the average homeowner. You might consider utilizing our Repair Directory to find a repairman.
