Thanks ardmax. I think I will leave the opening of the laptop to the experts. I will drop it off at the shop downtown and let them do the operating.

I have heard that if I hook it up to an external monitor and the lines are still there, that it would indicate that it is a software or hardware problem. I forget which.

    Thanks again.

Usually that's an indication of a bad screen component (LCD or inverter). If you still have a warranty ask for a replacement, if not you have to take in consideration that you need to open the laptop, locate the bad part and replacing it at an average cost between $150-250.

Let me know if you want to try.

What follows is not a solution. Just an experience. I also had a single line which developed to two adjacent lines within a week. What I did was tap the screen along the 2-pixel broad line. To my surprise, those pixels which did not work gathered into a cluster at the top of the screen in a small rectangle - probably the number of pixels that do not word did not change, but at least the problem did not remain a hindrance while reading...

Horizontal and vertical lines on ACER laptop

Hi there some how your laptop screen pressed & the screen is damaged. Just the option is replacing the screen. Another reason is over heating of screen by manufacturing default. Your laptop still under warranty so i suggest you visit the Acer service center & claim the damaged things if your screen does not have any over pressed symptom then. I hope you understand me. Thanks & waiting for your feedback.

2 lines have appeared at the side of my laptop. What does this mean?

A laptop screen that develops lines on the screen is an LCD screen failure. The screen may develop more of these over time.
If you connect the laptop to an external monitor, and tehn you do not see lines will confirm this. If the lines are on the external monitor, then it is the video card that is causing the problem.

Dell E4200 screen problems

Sure there is its called a TOSHIBA

Dell is the poor mans brand and is poorly made to the poor price!

The lines are caused byt a failing Liquid crystal display gel. A new screen can be purchased from a Dell outlet. But you could be spending money on a bettr unit that is reliable and under warranty. Take a ook at the Toshiba L300 range, very affordable, losts of bells and whistles and much better quality. and about $5-600 on special for introduction to the market. These units are usually in the $900 and over range
