Side by side Sub Zero light switch works intermittently.
How to remove sub zero light switch on the refrigerator side of a side by side door. The light works intermittently and I think it just needs to be cleaned. Please let me know if this is possible. Thank you!
I had the same problem with my sub-zero and finally resolved it (much to my wife's delight) by just replacing it. R&R was a lot simpler than having to work on it every time my wife had a problem.

still not clear. in your question you say refrig side is dark and not running, then you say you put a temp guage in it overnight and it's steady. So you DO have cooling in refrig? If it's just the lights, yes it could the switch or it could be the light bulbs.
The light switch at the top of the door frame is bad. it controls all the lighting including the display for the board. you will have to remove the grille up top, remove the cover over the 2 switches, and replace the switch that is all white. the one with a black back is for the fan and rarely goes bad. Just unplug the unit or at least turn it off before changing this switch, as it is live any time the unit is turned on.
The sub zero should make ice soon after being installed. If there is ice around the door frame of the freezer there may be a problem with the door frame heaters. There should not be ice around the door frame.
I had to take my switch apart and clean and lube it and it worked fine. Or just replace the switch. It may have gotten some sticky ketchup in it like mine did.
If the refrigerator is working fine, you may have a bad door-switch. Open the refrigerator door, you will see two switches on top, the one on the left is for the lights; try to tweak it may just be stuck. If this does not work you have to replace it. You can double-check this by shining a flashlight behind the control panel and you can see the temp. and the other info. This means the panel is fine. You can also try to contact Sub Zero customer service, they may send you a new switch for free.
Good luck and I hope this help.

First do the simple things like cleaning the condensor coils and turning the defrost timer a few times, also check the evaporator motor or just listen to the fan by opening the freezer door. Also check the light switch, make sure it turns the light off every time you close the door.
