    scousemumble....

I get surround sound when playing the radio and DVD player but only hear front speakers when watching TV. I'm using an HDMI cable and an optical cable. I just recently moved and can't recall one special tweak that's required to get surround to work with TV. I have the ability to use amynet but didn't use it with my old connection setup, and can't recall whether I needed it initially setup to access a required menu. Banging my head against the wall here so, any help would be greatly appreciated.

All,

I submitted an earlier request trying to determine why surround sound wasn't coming through all speakers when playing my TV.

Looking further into the Samsung site I found out that you MUST connect the optical cable from the home theater unit to the CABLE BOX and not to your TV to get surround sound...I'm currently in the office but will change the connection once home...try connecting to your CABLE BOX instead of your TV and it should resolve the problem.

First of all, the hdmi cable will only provide video/audio from the dvd player to the television, not visa versa.  Second, for cable/antenna audio playback through your home theater, you need to have an audio cable running from an audio output on the tv to an aux input on the home theater system. Whether you want to use component (RCA) cables or digital (toslink) is up to you, but you must set your home theater system to the appropriate input for it to play the audio signal.
Here's a basic schematic of what your setup should resemble. samsung ht-z310 home theatre audio problem - 220b029.jpg   You must set up your HDMI as well as audio cables from the TV's AUDIO OUT to the home theater's AUX IN/D-In. Once you have them set up, the Ht-Z310t must be set to aux in(for component) or D-In(for toslink), using the function key.

IS THE ONLY CONNECTION BETWEEN YOUR TV AND THE HOME CIMEMA RECIVER THE HDMI ? AS TTHE HDMI WILL ONLY PASS INFO FROM THE RECIVER TO THE TV AND NOT VICE VERSA. IF THIS IS THE CASE YOU NEED TO CONNECT THE TV VIA EITHER OPTICAL/DIGITAL OR PHONO LEADS FROM YOUR TV TO AUX INPUT ON THE RECIEVER

I want to use my TV's speakers with Samsung ht320z not surround sound. How?

You have to hook up the audio cables to the TV from the DVD stand alone player. Red and White is audio and Yellow is Video. The player will play movies and the sound should go to your TV speakers. If not you will need to set it on the TV in the audio source to play from your speakers on the TV. John

I cant get my samsung home cinema system to play through my t.v

I bought the optical audio cable ($15 WalMart) and use the Digital In on the DVD player to play the sound through the surround system and turned the TV speakers off. Works great! The optial audio has square ends and looks transparent with just one round shaped cable that goes from the TV to the back of the DVD player.

Problem getting home theatre sytem to play audio when watching tv

you need the red and white audio cable hooked into the AUDIO OUT connectors on the tv and the other end of the red and white cables into the AUDIO IN in tv to the media center (main Bose unit).....If your tv does not provide AUDIO OUT connectors, you cannot connect the tv audio to the 3-2-1 system. Continue using your tv speakers for sound.

Salutations ddog,

Really this is a question of sources. The reason your able to hear surround sound when connected to your DVD player is that is what is providing your audio and video source. When your watching television it would depend on how your getting your broadcasts. If you are either receiving an over-the-air broadcast or cable directly to your set, your television becomes the source. As your television is providing the signal, you would need it to loop back to your receiver to provide that surround sound.

Now for the good news, if you have a cable or satellite box these should have outputs to connect to your receiver to provide the audio source.

Also keep in mind not all broadcasts provide a version of surround sound. Most newer home theater systems will replicate surround sound artificially.

I hope this helps.

Hi Every one.

Had same problem with my HDMI connection on my sony bravia and sony theatre system, resolved by conecting a scart lead from the theatre system to one of the free scart sockets on the back of the TV, leave your HDMI connection in place as the DVD signal comes from this,

hope this helps!
