Look for the numlock light and see if you can turn it off or on by pressing the numlock key. If it responds, you may have a video issue. try connecting a known good external monitor to the laptop. Hit Fn F8 once to thrice until you get video on the second monitor. If you get good video on the external monitor, you may need to reseat/reconnect the lcd cable.

If the numlock light doesnt respond, it may be a loose memory card. try reseating it. You can find it on the bottom of the laptop, right under the door labelled 'M'.

These are just common fixes. There are still some other reasons why it's not booting up.
Comment back if nogo.
If it got fixed. Kindly leave your rating. Thanks!

Dell Inspiron 1501 Power Button won't turn on ....

I would remove the hinge / power button cover again and make sure the little pip that presses the button down it not broken, also check the little circuit board with the switch on to make sure it's not disconnected.
Try switching on with the cover removed.

Dell Inspiron 1501 won't power on

sounds like you have a defective logic board now, if dell doesn't want to replace it under warranty, there are laptop repair places that do it, but you have to have to weigh your options with buying a new laptop, repair could be up to 50% of what your's is worth as a 2nd hand laptop. if you're extremely tech savy you can try to do the replacement yourself, there are guides if you use search engines i'm sure something will show up for this or a similar model, mobo will be on ebay.

Won't post/boot

Try removing one of the two memory SODIMMS under the cover on the bottom of the unit. It sounds like you could have a bad memory problem that is keeping the machine from completing the POST (power on self test). I'd try one stick at a time and see if that helps.
Good luck, please rate this solution if you feel it has helped!!

Dell inspiron 1501 push power button no screen or sounds

Have you hooked it up to an external monitor? If you can see windows booting up on the external monitor then u may have a bad lcd screen or inverter or video card? Still lots of questions to ask.

Dell Inspiron 1501, died and will not restart

Try to remove the battery and unplug the power supply, then hold down the power button for about 10 seconds. If this doesn't work, it could be that the laptop overheated while watching the DVD.

I have a inspiron 1501 won't start up black screen f8 does not work either

Does it power on at all? Do you see anything on screen (DELL/BIOS for example)? Is it in a docking station? Also make sure the power is attached.

Sound Card

There are only certain soundcards that allow this (for obvious illegal music reasons mostly) although it wouldn't stop you from using a microphone against the speakers. Some media players like Winamp SEMI support soundcards being able to record like that (directly from the AudioOut)
There are some work arounds, for example, if you're listening to a file on the web, then that file had to have been downloaded to your computer, so you would look in the temporary internet files folder to find the music.
