Mitsubishi WD-62628 power shuts off!

After a few minutes of turning my 62" mitsubishi WD-62628 projection tv, it automatically shuts off and then the little green timer light start flashing. Anyone have an Idea of what is possibly going on? Mitsubishi WD-62628
I try to turn on the power but the Power/Timer light flashes then stops. It's like it keeps trying to turn on but gets shut off, over and over until I unplug it. I've tried reset and different outlets to no avail.

Any suggestions?

I purchased the DLP in Jan. '07. After I unplug the unit then turn it on, sometimes it will go to the snow or blue screen for around :10 prior to shutting off and the green Power/Timer light flashing as it repeats the attempt to start then shuts off.

Yes, I have a fare amount of electronics knowledge. I also have the Service Manual if that helps.

  • rick62628 Oct 03, 2008

I'm at work and the unit is at home, I can't count the green flashes now. I do have the Error Code Description table from the service manual.

  • rick62628 Oct 06, 2008

The Error code is 12. Thanks for waiting!

How do you know whether it's the Power Supply or bad capasitors on the DM Module? And if it is the power supply will it do the same thing if I replace the capasitors?

  • rick62628 Oct 07, 2008

How do I find out if it is the DM Capasitors or the Power Supply?

  • rick62628 Oct 07, 2008

Thank You! I'll let you know how it goes.

You most likely have some faulty capacitors on the power module. You can easily identify a bust capacitor. They will have swollen tops. Here is a sample pic:
Mitsubishi WD-62628 power shuts off! - 3f4732b.jpg
Check the specifications of the faulty capacitors, and getthe replacements from your local electronics shop. If you are comfortable withthis, you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to G-E-N-T-L-Y pull out thedefunct capacitors. Once that is done, solder in the new capacitors carefully. Ifare unsure how to do this, try to get a friend who knows this kinda stuff to doit for you, or get a qualified technician.
Warning: If you do not have a background inelectronics repair, or are inexperienced, get a qualified technician to do itfor you.

REMEMBER there are very dangerous voltages inside a TVthat can KILL. Be sure to work SAFE when dealing with electricity. DISCONNECTTHE POWER BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.

If you want to go in for a long term solution, youcan easily replace the whole power board. You can get spare from HERE.
They also offer FREE online technical advice as you do the DIY..

Hope that helps!

You need to replace power supply, when you get error 12 it is always the power supply, see a similar case here.

You can get replacement here:
Welcome to Mitsubishi Parts
If you need the service manual buy it here.

If you need to call a technician use number listed on the owner manual.

If the part is not listed in the website above, give them a call they have all mitsubishi replacements.

It is not like that , you cannot just go, pull out capacitor, or replace a $500 main board or go pulling out capacitors like that.
The procedure suggested is not safe.

Servicing and troubleshooting TV is dangerous and a far more complex procedure than the one described here.

You do not work on a TV board if you do not have a solid experience
    in soldering and electronic testing.

You also need to unplug power one hour before servicing the TV.

If you do not have done this many time before, you will better call a technician.
If you really decide to put your hands on the TV, unplug power one hour before servicing it.
Sorry but that is the truth guys, safety first.

Regarding error 12, check your service manual, that is power supply problem.
If you really know what you are doing, replace the power supply, at your risk, that is not a very complicate operation, as power board is connected with connectors to the main board (see schematics on service manual).
If you have not worked on a TV before call a repairman.

Hold the MENU and DEVICE buttons when turning on the TV and get error code
12 = No error detected, check power supply.
**Possible cause: **You may have a bad DM Module!** It is highly likely the root cause of the failed DM Module are the blue, electrolytic PTH Capacitors on the board..

How old is your DLP?
It sounds like the lamp might be overheating or needs to be replace.
If the lamp overheats it could be due to a cooling fan not working properly or not at all.

I would suggest to measure the 3.3 volts from the power supply. If this voltage is lower then 2.7 volts, visually inspect the capacitors that are filtering the 3.3 volts line.

  • Jaime Hernandez Oct 07, 2008

You should measure the voltages first to know if the failure could be originating in the power supply. If the voltages measure good then the next step should be to replace the capacitors in the DMD board.

Lamp is not the issue. It most likely is a your DM card. You most likely have some capacitors that need to be replaced. This is a terrible issue with this unit. Do a google search for "DM" and the model number and you should see hundreds of posts.

Try pushing the Imput and Menu buttons in together on the set and hold for 5 minutes and see if it blinks out a two digit code. Then let me know. Also these sets have a tendency to have some faulty capacitors on the DM board. Hope this helps youout.
