You need to update the Bios to version 3305, and update the Atheros driver to version 160 --- this will make the WIFI connection stable.

I have the same problem. It won't even connect using a cable. The DVD solution would be helpful IF the laptop contained a DVD but it does not.

You're probably not going to like this answer. The Acer Atheros card, as shipped, from what I've read and experienced, has problems connecting to wireless networks (particularly WEP/WPA). I haven't tried this, but you could try downloading more recent drivers (the ones on my Aspire were dated 05/08) on another machine and transferring them via flash drive. A more certain fix is to purchase a USB wireless adapter. You will have to go through the headache of offloading the CD onto a flash drive on a different computer and installing the drivers via flash drive (use Autorun), but it's not hard to do.
Remember to disable the Atheros Wireless Connection in your Network Connections before connecting to your wireless connection or it will still interfere with your connection.
Considering how much you saved on this machine, the $30-$120 (depending on what features you want) for a functional USB network adapter is a small price to pay for a fully functional network/Internet computer. I bought a NetGear and that fixed my problem.

Tips for a great answer:
Check the wireless router and high-speed modem.
If the two are not powered on, or if the Ethernet cable connected the two is not completely inserted into both connection ports, you are unable to access the Internet on the Acer Aspire One laptop computer.
Activate the wireless Internet connection on the laptop computer.
Right-click the wireless icon on the desktop, then choose "Enable" from the pop-up menu.
Without activating the wireless receiver on the Acer Aspire One, the laptop is unable to detect any wireless network.
Select the appropriate network you wish to connect to.
Your computer may be attempting to connect to a different Internet connection, preventing you from access the network you desire. Right-click the wireless icon, select "Search for available wireless networks," then choose the network you want to access.
Restart the computer.
The system may have booted and failed to detect the wireless receiver. Restarting the computer corrects this issue.
hope this helps
