I will first start out by saying, it is very important that you have some soldering experience working on solid state printed circuit boards and that you know that too much heat from the soldering iron will most likely ruin the pc (printed circuit) board. If this happens, it can be a very difficult repair. The boards are no longer available for these sets from Mitsubishi so I cannot stress enough, if you have no soldering experience, let a pro assist you in this repair. One more very important thing to remember and NOT DO!! If the convergence is way out or cannot be adjusted by the customer controls, do not go into the service menu and try to adjust the convergence.

I know you are feeling this is not fixable, but it is. First, let's establish your TV is a Samsung HCM/PCL Television. Akai, is just a name licensed to this model. Having said that, the link below is the actual technicians service manual that pertains to your television. Below that is my advise as to how to handle this matter. If you feel this is something you wish to tackle on your own, in the manual, in the schematics in the back (Section 10-17) you will find the Convergence IC's. Thses are the one's in question and need to be replaced.

Also, I will say I recall at one point a few years ago that Samsung had a recall for models similar to this for coolant leakage and fixed them free of charge. You mau wish to call them (I was right ) If you have one of the Samsung projection TVs listed below, and the CRT coolant in the TV has leaked or is leaking, please call Samsung Customer Care at 1-800-Samsung (1-800-726-7864). Have the model number and serial number of your TV set on hand when you call.

    http://www.techlore.com/downloads/file/7...

Two conditions will affect this, first is leaking crt onto the deflection
board, very common with Samsung, Akai RPTV CRT SETS. Second in failure in
the convergence dynamic output circuit or the fluid has also gotten to the
signal circuit contaminating the DCU assembly. In depth diagnostics required
to assure that there is no coolant fluid leakage, and if there is, what is
damaged. BTW the crts come with the yokes attached. When changing any of
them for leakage order the crt circuit boards (complete 3 card assembly with
focus assembly) also. What a nice design!!

As Mentioned, nothing that the average consumer can address themselves, have
it serviced. BTW you will not want to handle any of the internal components
if indeed there is coolant leakage!!

Let me know if there is anymore help you need. I would like to see you get this resolved. Just "ASK ME".

Ginko, why are you so full of **it. I am getting tired of you lying to the poor people about their problem and giving them the impression you know what you are talking about. Stop doing it or I will have you removed as a poster. This is my last warning and your last chance. Stop BSing prople. Alsdo, if you rated this yourself, you are gone. If GUERICH did not rate your solution, I am seeking to remove you from the service.

Sorry GUERICH forthat, but this individual is giving this service a black eye and we needed to warn him. Hope to hear from you soon.

If it is a projection TV , like the model in title, then it is not a convergence problem.

Describe the problem in detail and confirm the model number for the TV.

Shadows on lpd TV can be caused by lamp problems, on some models with projection LCD there are also problems caused by the anti polarizing screen on top of the display.

Blue and pink shadows are also caused by cooling problems in the light engine, in this case the fault will be expensive to be fixed.

Provide exact model, and more details on your fault.

If the unit is still under guaranty you can get support by calling the number listed on the owner manual.

Mitsubishi RPTV has a blue shadow/image alignment problem

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

69189a5.pngCONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.
