Question about Lexmark 83 Color Ink Cartridge (Twin Pack) Printer

Problem communicating with the printer

I have followed all the directions when this saying pops up and made sure my connections were good, and checked the bidirectional printing box. Any other suggestions, my printer has not worked in two weeks and I can't find the solution. We reinstalled the printer and updated the computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Clarification request:

Everytime I try to print something, my computer tells me there is a "problem communicating with the printer" and nothing is able to print. All of my connections are secure and I have followed all the other prompts and directions I have been instructed to do.

My problem: How do I fix the problem and get my printer to work without buying a new one, any suggestions.

With the Lexmark printers communication subsystem you MUST let the driver ask for you to plug in the printer. DO NOT plug the printer into the USB port until told to do so.

To fix a fouled install:
(1) Uninstall the Lexmark drivers in Add Remove Programs
(2) Shutdown the computer
(3) Disconnect the printer from the USB port
(4) Restart the computer
(5) Run the Driver Installation software
(6) Cancel ALL attempts by windows to auto install the printer
(7) When the software asks for the printer connect it and continue

My brother DCP-J140W won't scan. It keeps saying check connection but it is printing okay. Please help!

How is the all-in-one connected to your computer? The problem usually means that you do not have bi-directional communication between the printer and the computer.

If it is connected to your wireless network, did you ensure that the firewall allows the communication? (Some firewalls will automatically add the correct ports to the allowed list during the install of the full software.) For other firewall software or the less-complete install of the software drivers, you need to make sure that the port, 54925 , are allowed to access your computer for inbound and outbound network data. If adding that port is insufficient to allow scans to have bi-directional communication with the printer, also add port 137 (inbound and outbound). Since this step depends on your firewall, please add a comment with the firewall software on your computer. This is in the note in the Scanning section of the Brother Software User's manual for the DCP-J140W on page 35. This manual is available here: http://download.brother.com/welcome/doc002923/dcp140w_use_soft.pdf . An example of setting the Firewall rules for the Windows Firewall is shown starting on page 85 of the manual.

If your computer is connected to the printer via a USB cable, try a different (possibly shorter 6' or less) USB cable or a different port. If you have the printer connected to a USB hub, skip the hub and directly connect to the computer. Check if other devices work at the USB ports. Sometimes ports do fail; either they can't maintain the needed voltage or they don't keep the cable and pins properly aligned.

I hope this helps.

(I have seen the communication issues with stand-alone scanners as well. I saved a perfectly good scanner from the trash when the user failed to check if the scanner worked with other ports.)

I have a BJC80 printern with a scanner head. My pc is an xp opertins system. It is connect to parallel port but when i try to scan, it sends me back an error message saying there is no communication.

One of two issues may be involved. 1) Make sure you have a bi-directional IEEE-1284 parallel printer cable, 6 feet or less long. 2) Make sure that the parallel port is set to ECP mode (the BIOS is accessed by hitting F1 or F2 during boot on many computer, check your manual.) Try a new cable (just in case the cable has just enough damage to prevent the scanner from getting the full bi-directional communication).

I hope this helps.

(the lack of bi-directional communication only disables the scanner, the printer will still work)

HP Officejet 6310 scans once but then says scanner failure

hi,

that error message is nothing to do with the software part, it actaully hardware issue try the following,

1) unplug the machine and connect it to wall outlet directly,
2) unplug the power cord from the printer and press and hold ON for 1 min and release the ON button and plug it back..
3) Disconnect the power cord from the product.Press and hold # and 6 while reconnecting the power cord to the product, and then release both buttons and if printer turns off, turn it back ON and wait until it cmopletes its instialization and if still persists, it a hardware failure...............

Problem communicating with the printer

Did you just install the software? if not then check your cables. If they are firmly attached thentry a different usb port on your computer. If that doesn't work then un-install the lexmark (not delete) and reinstall following directions. After Download make sure printer if off and usb cable is unplugged from the printer. Start the program and follow the diffections. But only connect when it tells you to do so.

I just put new ink Cartridges but still wont print

Hello,

Most of the time the "problem communicating with the printer" message pops up on Lexmark X1185 series when the driver gets corrupted. The best fix for this issue would be to uninstall the software first. Try connecting the USB to a different USB port (Please avoid using USB hubs, if any) and then reinstall the software. This should normally fix the printer communication issues!

Good Luck

well...did you get drivers from a known good source? sometimes those driver sites can be a little obsolete.

erform the following checks on the bi-directional communication:

1. Temporarily unplug the power cord and then plug it back into the wall outlet. If necessary, turn the printer back on. The printer should make a resetting sound.
2. Make sure that the print cartridge has been installed correctly and the cover snapped into place.
3. Also make sure that the printer is directly connected to the USB port (or parallel port, where applicable) on the PC.
4. An IEEE-1284 bi-directional parallel printer cable is required (not applicable for USB).
5. If there is another peripheral device connected, remove it and connect the printer directly.
6. If the problem persists, continue as instructed below.

To prevent the drvwppqt.vxd virtual device driver from being loaded:

Warning! Do not implement this solution if you have a tape backup device connected to a parallel (LPT) port on your computer.

1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
2. In the Named box, type drvwppqt.vxd and then click Find Now.
3. Rename all instances of the file by changing the file name extension from .vxd to .old. This will prevent the driver from being loaded.
