Yes. But it depends on the phone system you have.

What system do you have?

Hooking up fax to KX TG7871 Panasonic Phone

There is excellent support here on basic fax setups. You have what is known as "Distinctive Ringing Service". There are pros and cons to the various setups. I assume you recognize the rings and answer only when the ring for the landline talk comes on. The fax will pick up the faxes, and the answering machine will pick up the voice.

Need model number of your fax - google that!

Distinctive Ringing Service setup While it is not available everywhere, a distinctive ringing service can be purchased from most telephone companies. With this service, more than one phone number is assigned to the same phone line. Each phone number will ring differently. The main number will ring with a normal single ring and the additional number will ring with a distinctive ring pattern assigned by the phone company.
When a distinctive ringing service is used, set the Rings to Answer to 2 and then follow the steps below to set the distinctive ringing pattern:
  1. Press Setup , press 4 , and then press 1 to enter the Answer Ring Pattern setup of the Advanced Fax settings.
  2. Use the Right Arrow to scroll through the available settings. When the ring pattern assigned by the phone company displays (double or triple rings), press OK .

Have answering machine and fax on same line. How do I receive calls or faxes?

Your fax machine *may* have specific instructions (if not too old) for this very common type of installation (many do). Consult your fax manual to learn how to set this up. Your AT&T TL86109 phone has no options for adding a fax machine.

If your fax machine lacks the built-in ability to forward non-fax calls to your telephone or TAD, you will need to either purchase a fax machine that can do this, purchase and install a "fax switch" or, manage your fax calls manually - by only enabling the fax machine to answer calls when a fax is expected.

If yout still have problems, please post the name / model of your FAX machine. I hope this helps & good luck!

I have a gigaset 8825. I have a "distinctive ring" problem

Hello,

I have the same phone system, and *think* you may be able to fix the problem by adjusting the amount of rings before answer on each unit. This assumes there is an auto answer system engaged. Hope that helps some.

I have 1 phone line that is shared with my all-in-one fax, therefore, we are using the phone/fax in DRPD mode but I am unable to receive incoming faxes. The fax machine is a Samsung SCX-4521F.

I would get a line sharing device. That device will be able to establish wether the inbound call is a fax or voice call, and route it accordingly.

My incoming call always jump into fax line

Change the fax to answer on the fifth ring or more. Check that the settings are not on 'fax only'. You can have the answer machine pick up on the third ring, just have the fax answer two rings later.

What do I buy to use 2line phone and separate fax?

You can buy a 2 line phone, but to use the fax/dsl line for voice, you will also need a line sharing device.

"The stick" is a good brand....

All it does is recognize if an incoming call is a fax or a voice call. If fax it would go to a fax port on the stick. If voice, it comes out the voice port which you can call on.

The same rules apply to this line....if something is using it, the next call will get busy......But now you could have the phone company "Hunt" your line 1 to line 2 (fax/dsl) if line 1 is busy.......hence...2 incoming lines....

Need to connect phone and fax machine to one phone jack

You have the wrong adapter probably. Most common types are single line splitters and will not work like you want. They only split line one and 2 gets blocked out as they only have 2 copper connector on the plug centered to get line 1 only. If you want to use an adapter you will need a 2 line splitter like this one:http://www.trianglecables.com/tellinsplitl.html
A simpler solution is to plug your fax into your phone. On top of your phone are multiple jacks labeled L1/L2, L2 only or L2/data. Plug your phone into the wall using the L1/L2 jack then plug your fax into the L2 jack and this will work fine and still allow you use of line 2 on your phone. If you don't want to hear the ring then set your fax machine to auto answer. Hope this helps you.

On the m9516 what is the fax switch on and off used for?

The Fax Switch
The Fax Switch feature allows you to have two telephone numbers on one incoming line.
There is one telephone number for the line and another telephone number for a Fax Switch peripheral (e.g. fax machine).
To use the Fax Switch, you must subscribe to your telephone company for Distinctive Ringing†. The telephone company will then provide you with an additional telephone number (for your Fax Switch peripheral) which will have a slightly different ring. The 9516 will use the two ring types to determine whether an incoming call is for the telephone or the peripheral. The peripheral should be set to answer after three or more rings.
Note: If Long Distance Ringing† is available in your area, long distance calls will be sent to the Fax Switch peripheral. Also, you cannot use the Fax Switch feature and the Special Greeting feature at the same time. The 9516 must be configured so the Fax Switch peripheral is connected to pins 3 and 4 of jack number 2. See Connecting an optional fax machine or modem on
page 4 for more information.

Note:
If you subscribe to your telephone company for Call Waiting services, your Fax Switch peripheral may lose data or get disconnected if someone calls while your fax is receiving data. We recommend that you do not subscribe to the Call Waiting service from your telephone company if you are using the Fax Switch feature.

My new Uniden Phone/Answer machine is loading down my fax line

I have searched the user manual and can find no help on this matter, although there are help numbers listed and I'm sure they can advise, here is the link to the main page and there is a link to a pdf manual download if you don't already have one http://www.uniden.com/products/productdetail.cfm?product=TRU8885-2

However, it may be that you could use a T adaptor or socket doubler on the line jack and plug both in. good luck !
