MW fan (not vent fan) keeps running full time

I have a problem with GE JVM1790.
The MV unit fan now runs all the time and never turns off unless you open the door.

(I am not referring to the vent fans).

The unit will heat fine, but the fan that cools the MV power unit runs non-stop unless I unlpug the unit.

Is there a RESET sequence for the onboard PC or is this some other "zip-zap" circuit board glitch ??

I too have this same issue. This van will not turn off unless the door is left ajar.

SOURCE: New microwave; loud fan when heating items

Update: I took it back. After speaking to GE, they said that's just how it is, there is no way to silence or quiet it. I took it back and bought an LG. I love it!

SOURCE: GE Advantium SCA1000.

I fixed this yesterday, using the solution posted here: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/microwave-repair/4882-advantium-turntable-light-always-main-relay.html

Unplug the unit.

Replace the interior light using these instructions: http://www.instructables.com/id/GE-Advantium-Microwave-Halogen-Lightbulb-Replaceme/ The inside of my unit looks a bit different from the pictures, but the procedure is basically the same.

Additional info not in the procedure link above:

Remove the one screw at the top of the front control panel.
Slide the control panel up to disengage it, and pull out slowly (has wires on back)
There are four black rectangular things running top-to-bottom on the PCB board on the back. One of them is labeled RY1.
Tap on RY1 with a screwdriver a few times (very high tech). I actually tapped on all of them for good measure.
Reassemble, see if everything works now.

It took me about 30 minutes for the bulb and the control panel 'adjustment'. Everything is working now.

SOURCE: GE JVM1440WH01 Will not heat, everything else

It could be a number of things, Burnt connections between the magnetron, Capacitor, Diode and transformer, Heater connections loose or burnt, Transformer, Capacitor Diode or Magnetron US. You need to strip it and find out if you are getting about 2000volts to the Mag, Are you getting approx 5volts across the heater terminals?? NOTE that the 2000 Volts can remain in the cap indefinitely and the voltage is LETHAL. IT WILL KILL YOU if you don`t take precautions. Ian

SOURCE: I have a GE jvm1790 microwave that when its pluged

The megatron tube is not working. The microwave should turn off when the door is opened for safety. If it is still under warranty, return it. If not, you may consider replacing the unit. I know its expensive, but its just taking up cabinet space tonight.

The bulb may have blown. It is often under an access panel on the side or back that is held on with a screw or two.

sounds like your timer switch is faulty what make and model is it
if its a cheap make and model bin it and buy a new one

My GE Microwave JVM1850 will not heat unless I put the vent fan on.

That's really odd. I don't believe I've heard of that one before.

I would suspect the problem is on your control board, which in most can be repaired simply and inexpensively.

A YouTube video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes, is here.

I have a Ge jvm1790sk and while the microwave is running there is no internal light how do I replace it?

Unplug unit before entering.

The light bulb is behind the air vent at the center top of the microwave. Remove two screws at the very top front of the microwave and pull the vent cover forward at the top. Sliding left is sometimes necessary to release the bottom tabs of the vent cover. The light fixture will be behind this cover.

Good Luck. Reverse the above process to reassemble.

Will the template for JVM1790 be the same as earlier GE models?

Make your own template of the holes in the top of your cabinet and lay it over the new unit and see if they align. As long as your replacing GE with GE it probably will work.

Microwave interior light

Very easy to replace...at least on my JVM1790. Remove the top vent....the long plastic thing that runs along the top of the MW. Two screws on top of the micro. Behind the charcola filter (if you installed one) is an access area to the bulb. remove one screw and the entire assy comes out. Simply R & R the bulb.

Blower motor on above stove microwave not running

The dual fan in the back is the vent / exhaust / hood fa. It will run when you turn it on, or if the stove top gets too hot.

The other fan is the magnetron cooling fan, and it will only run when you are cooking. If it is not running, your magnetron can be destroyed.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here. That may help you a lot.

Please reply back with more details if this is not yet a FixYa...
