I have a sony dvd camcorder dvd105. I have used a tdk DVD+RW to record holiday footage. I have taken the disc out of the camcorder to watch on my dvd player, but nothing played. I put the disc back in the camcorder but now the only option it gives me is to format the disc, I assume this will wipe it. How do I get my footage back ??? Hope you can help

I'm glad to inform you that it is possible to record additional scenes after finalizing when you use DVD -RW and DVD +RW discs.
When using finalized DVD -RW(VR mode) disc, you can record additional material on the disc without any additional steps.
Other case, you can unfinalize the discs using [UNFINALIZE] option under DISC SET Menu.
Please let me know if you require any clarifications.
Thanks for understanding.
Below is a list of discs that should or should not be used with the DVD recorders.
4x can be used
8x will result in a disc error.
2x can be used
4x will result in a disc error.
The following discs have been tested and are proven to be compatible with our DVD recorders.
IMATION DVD-R 2.0
TDK DVD-RW 2X
TDK DVD-R 2X
The following are brands of discs we DO NOT recommend:
TDK DVD-RW 4x
TDK DVD-R 4x
Please be aware that a free software upgrade is now available to customers. This upgrade will enable your unit to recognize the (DVD-R 8x) discs. To obtain a copy, please call 1-800-242-7158. Customer service by phone is available 7 days a week 6:00am to 9:00pm pacific time.
In order to receive the upgrade we need to know what firmware version your unit requires. First you need to access the DVD recorders service mode. Turn on the DVD Recorder and the Television, make sure the unit is on the DVD side. You may access the service mode by pressing the CMSKIP button on the remote control. Once you press CMSKIP you must press the numbers 1,2,3. You must do this quickly so it may take a couple tries. The model name will appear on the screen followed by Firmware Version. I need to know the serial number next to FE: Press the RETURN button to exit screen.

Try to use a cotton swap to 1st clean the recording lens or blow gently
on it. Place an empty disc in, format the disc, record a little scene.
Turn off camcorder. Place the error disc in the camcorder, turn on the
camcorder all the way to play/edit. If this doesn't work turn it to
record and try to record. Worked for some of my error disc
I am just throwing these out there as food for thought.
Make sure you ended the recording on that other side. If a DVD is left open(meaning more could be written to it) other dvd players have a hard time reading the info. Put in one of the 2 sided disc's that worked. how does the camera recognize the disc? Then insert the troubled disc and see if the disc info is being read the same. i.e. disk size, manufactuer, open/closed?
Check for a firmware upgrade for your DVD burner/player(s).
Let me know how things work out.
