Hi Idgetwidget,
I don't think its broken. What your'e experiencing could be because there is no Operating System[Windows] installed on your Laptop! You can download the Operating Systems from this Microsoft site.

Hope this helps.Thanks!

Ooh I get it.Then you may have to purchase the installation CD's from the shelf.

I purchased this same laptop the same day as you and have the same problem. I sent it back and the store sent me a new one, but the new one is doing exactly the same. Darn annoyed as it supposed to be a Christmas Gift.

Toshiba satellite won't turn on

Before you make a decision about the next step, maybe you would like to know why the laptop charger is not working. Here are some commonly found reasons for this problem.

You have been using the wrong laptop charger for your machine, or someone else has been using your laptop charger for another machine. This may seem like a harmless act, but it affects the battery on your laptop, and charger you are using as well.

Your laptop battery has become weak and worn out from excessive use. Due to this the battery is not charging at all (or charging very slowly) when you plug in the charger. In this case there is absolutely nothing wrong with the charger itself.

The wire of the laptop charger has got a distinct curve at one point, and this is restricting it from transmitting power. You need to look out for such bends in the wire, as this will ruin the efficiency of the charger in no time.

This may sound elemental and stupid to some, but it does happen to many people. Maybe you are simply using the wrong laptop charger by mistake, or maybe you have failed to switch on the power switch. Check both these things to be sure.

Any of these potential causes could be the reason behind your laptop charger not working. As a result of these, either the mains power lead of your charger may be damaged, or the power supply unit may be damaged, or maybe the lead itself is damaged or broken somewhere, or some circuitry inside the laptop is damaged, and not responding to the charger. It's hard to accurately tell which of these problems could be the real cause of your laptop battery not charging, without physically examining the machine.

Solutions and Answers

Now if you are well versed in computer hardware you can attempt to fix this yourself. Most people cannot do this, and it is advisable for them to visit a computer repair shop instead. They will examine the laptop charger not working problem, and suggest some suitable remedies for it. Depending on your budget, you can choose an option that suits you and simultaneously solves your problem. Here are some recommended solutions.

Buy a brand new charger which will definitely solve your problem of charging the laptop for a long time.
Replacement Toshiba Satellite M305 AC Adapter 75Watt 19V 3.95A

If you're hesitant to pay that amount, you can try and purchase a second hand laptop charger from eBay.

Get your's repaired and pay the repair shop the fees that they charge.

If your warranty is still valid, you can simply get the laptop charger replaced.

Toshiba satellite L305-s5955 will not power up

If there is no power light and it can't charge your laptop, it is likely that the charger is dead. You need a new laptop charger. So try a new adapter to confirm the real issue.

There are two kinds of ac adapters for your toshiba l305-s5955

Toshiba Satellite L305 AC Adapter 75Watt 19V 3.95A

Toshiba Satellite L305 AC Adapter 90Watt 19V 4.74A

You should choose the right charger depending on your original adapter's specification. If the original one need 90w, you won't buy 75w that will bring damage to your laptop. If it needs 75w you can use 90w too.

My Toshiba Satellite L655-s5107 won't turn on.

More than likely the power cord/charger is dead or the battery is. Bring it to a tech store and see if you can test out a new cord/charger and battery......

The laptop doesn't start but the charger works.

Take out the battery and connect the charger.
Then try to turn on the computer.
If it works, there is no problem with your computer.
After that insert the battery, plug in your adapter and try turning on once more.
If it doesn't work, you need to get a new battery.

My laptop wont charge when charger is plugged in it will turn on but the computer will stay at 0% battery what is the problem?

HI there, IS it a new Laptop. If yes what you can try is removing the battery and then switching it on.. Once its started just reseat the battery while its on power. You might have to try it 2-3 times if that doesnt help then your battery is broken..
Kind regards

My toshiba satellite p25-s507 will not start. When I press the start button its begins to start up for a couple seconds but then turns off. I plug in the charger and there is no light indicating that it is...

Take out the battery and only hook up the charger. If the laptop turns on then you know the battery is shorting out the motherboard. If the laptop doesn't turn on then you know that the charger is bad and you would need to buy a new one.

If you have another power charger try it. It can only be one of two things. Bad charger or bad battery. Most likely the battery will need replaced
