Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console

PS2 will not read disc for Guitar Hero

We bought a brand new guitar hero for ps2. Our ps2 was new Dec. 2007. Disc could not be read so we exchanged Guitar Hero for a new one. (Our ps2 reads all of our other ps2 games) The new Guitar Hero CD cannot be read either. A friend told us to try it on a different ps2. We borrowed an older version ps2 and it works fine. We can't figure out what the difference is.

We bought the guitar hero 2, then 3 and finally we bought world tour box set for the kids for Christmas. The second one was used and is the only disc that will still play in our "slim ps2". Guitar hero 3 which I bought new from toys r" us was the first to go a few days later the world tour stopped working. The second onw will work but it takes some fiddling. We don't know what is causing these games to suddenly just stop working. We have cleaned em and we don't allow the children to handle the disc's so FRUSTRATED!

Not so, the old playstation 2's (the chunky ones) have a defective lazer on them, so if you insert a blue disc the lazer will actually go through the disc and not even realise the disc is there in the first place.
the blue discs were just a cheap way to make copies of a game from the production standards, sony updated the lazer on the newer models of the chunky ps2 but that caused problems for some of the silver bottomed discs to be read.
your best option is to buy a slimline playstation 2, but sometimes they also have the old lazers in them too. its trial and error really.

hope this helps

There is no difference basically and your ps2 should read any ps2 or ps1 games regardless on how old or recent your console is. I believe you are still under a warranty try to have sony replace your ps2 because i am almost your its defective. the game works just fine its the console is probably defective.

okay, try this: 1. Start up PS2 with no disc 2. select 'Browser', press triangle. 3. select 'Console', press triangle. 4. select 'Diagnostics', press X, select 'ON'. 5. press 'O' to back out of this menu. 6. select 'Playstation Drive', press triangle. 7. select 'Disc Speed', press X, select 'FAST'. 8. press 'O' to back out of menu. 9. turn off PS2. 10. insert disc. Guitar Hero World Tour PS2

If you have old ps2(fat one) or some of the older slim models they are unable to read the new dual layer discs like GHWT. You can send your ps2 back to sony to reformat it to be able to read these new discs for about $50. There is currently a class action lawsuit against sony and activision for not being upfront about this problem.
