Replacing antenna hookup on a westinghous LCD TV

Many of these new sets the coax fitting is part of the TV tuner--depending if tuner in this case stands up or not--tuner would have to be removed from board to replace the fitting---take my word for that as have done it a few hundred times.

Many newer sets if fitting is part of tuner, the tuner is on its side--pass on those as almost every time the board is destroyed in any attempt to replace the fitting or the tuner.

The Good news: there is a fairly easy way around this issue.

Get a box (cable, sat etc) or something the cable can input to (even an old VCR) that has video and audio output jacks-----------------run them into one of the AV inputs this set should have--bingo you are in business---

You sound like you can do a repair but let me know if questions--I do this here for free.

When i turn on the tv its norman picture but about 5minutes the picture will snowy what is the problem of that? tnx hope u help me

A snowy picture after warmup is either in the set or not.

What you may want to do to begin with is hook up a DVD player or something else to ONE OF THE VIDEO INPUTS ON BACK OF SET this will narrow it down to the tuner or the front end of the set.

If A/V hookup works you always have the option to hook the output of the cable or sat box to those same kind of rear connections- bypass the tuner and front end signal circuits completely.

As it only happens when on a short time not likely to be a hookup or bad connection there but check them anyway.

If using a box of some kind run the cable or sat direct without it--bypass the box to rule it out.

Last is if tuner in set is bad it would have to be removed and or rebuilt/replaced---not cheap parts and labor

I have a rca d52w23 no caoax hookup what part do ineed to make my tv cable ready

The model you listed does have a built in tuner so there should be a connector on the back where cable TV would connect to. A very common issue on these sets is the connector often breaks off rendering the tuner useless and therfore requiring replacement of the tuner itself. You can use a cable box and connect it to either the component or composite inputs on the back of the TV. I hope that helps : )

Cable hookup broken

Sometimes you can replace the rf connector by resoldering it with a replacement rf. You will have to remove the tuner to do this. The big question is did you crack the tuner board or the board the tuner is connected to. You will really have to examine these. In most of my cases a successful replacement rf connector will fix.

Distorted Picture

I don't think that the cable is your problem. Set may have a defective tuner or small signal board. (Tuner is soldered onto the small signal board).

Most likely fix is to find and replace the small signal board with tuner. Should be able to find one for less than $200.

Another thing to try is your video inputs. Use external devices such as a DVD play hooked you using proper video lines and check you inputs. Are they doing the same thing as your cable? If not, then it maybe just a tuner. Some makes and models won't allow you to solder in a new tuner without a full board replacement, but this however may allow you to hookup a VCR with a tuner built in and from VCR to your TV using video input jacks and then programming the VCR tuner to all your cable channels may get your set watchable again without having to tare it apart and replacing a board. However if your input jacks are distorting like the cable channels are, then a small signal board replacement is a must for your set.

Good luck!

Channels disappear

Because your problem appears after 1 hour... suggests me that your TV's tuner unit or cable box is at fault.

After the unit generates heat, the components (capacitors) in the tuner is affected and throws off the frequency of each channel.

  • if it is the TV monitor's tuner rather than the cable box, then you would have to have it serviced by a repair facility.
  • if it is the cable box, just call your cable company to replace the box at no charge to you.
Good luck!

Tuner won't go above Channel # 99?

Most cable boxes that go past 99 are digital channels and require the cable box to tune them in. You can always set the cable box to the station you want and hookup the rca output to your DR4 rca input and record from that. Their is no other work around for this because the DR4 has an analog tuner inside of it and your cable box is a digital turner.

Atenna plug pulled out of tv, how do i get a signal now?

It has always amazed me how many "F" connectors get pulled out of tuners. I know because I've replaced hundreds, usually successfully, saving the cost of a new tuner. You need to unsolder the tuner from the board and remove the side cases. If the tuner board is not damaged beyond repair, (if it is you have to get creative), a new unit can be soldered in place. Put everything back together and you will be in buisness. New "F" connectors can be purchased from MCM Electronics at www.mcminone.com, part #215543 for $2.50. I always use a new connector as the old ones are usually trashed. Reliability is compromised if you don't use a new one. Technically you do not need the cable hookup since you have composite inputs. For my money I would just hookup a VCR (with a tuner) coming out of the VCR composite jacks into the TV composite jacks and use the tuner on the VCR leaving the TV in Aux, or whatever they call the composite inputs, and call it a day. It's you're choice but using a VCR tuner is faster, easier, cheaper and if you want to play a VHS tape you're already hooked up! If you are a traditionalist and want the TV 100% remember to be safe while working on it. Good luck whichever way you go.
