Question about Canon Digital Cameras

My Canon EOS 5D consistengly overexposes images by approximately 2/3 stops..both in natural light and flash situations. The problem is particularly bad outdoors. Can this be fixed?

Thanks for the quick reply rody3. Unfortunately, I have firmware version 1.1.1 already installed on my camera. I have also tried resetting all of the camera's settings back to their factory defaults.

Actually, I had been using the Canon 28-105 for the past two years (which I purchased as the kit lens with my Canon A2e). I just recently purchased the Canon 24-105L lens to use with my 5D. Both lenses display the overoexposure problem. However, I am experiencing more blown highlights with the 24-105L lens. I am not sure if that is related to this problem or not.

My MK2 will not change the iso when in video mode

Have you tried to put the exposure mode to "manual"? If you leave it in automatic exposure mode, the iso, speed and aperture will always combine themselves to give the correct exposure and therefore will not let you overexpose your video. Hope this will help.

Canon 40D playback on viewfinder flashes all white to black. On a wedding gown it is horrible on playback to review.

You're seeing blown-out highlights. These are the portions of the image that have been overexposed so much that all details have been lost and gone pure white. Usually this is a bad thing, and the camera is warning you of it. The proper fix is to reduce the exposure to bring back some of the details. If you simply want the camera to stop the flashing, see page 117 of this manual.

What are lenses that are compatible with the canon eos 5d mark ii

You can use Canon EF lenses. Be careful not to use EF-S lenses, as they cast a smaller image circle for cropped-sensor cameras, not big enough for full-frame cameras. There are other third-party manufacturers that make lenses with Canon EF mounts, such as Sigma and Tamron. Each manufacturer has their own designation for cropped-sensor lenses, so you'll have to check the specifications for each of them.

5D-Mark II screen flashes with reflecting objects

No. It's simply a menu setting to show you where potentially overexposed highlights in the final image will be. The function can be set to show shadows or highlights.

I don't currently have a manual to hand, but if you can't find how to turn it off in your own manual then report back and I'll have a thorough rummage for one.

I would like to photograph people and animals in snow

Using the camera in program mode with auto bracketing turned on should give you reasonable results. Winter light is “cooler” in nature and the bright reflections from snow and ice tend to make the final image too “bright."

Bracketing exposures help when photographing outdoors in the snow.

You can use flash as well. Remember to keep a spare battery for the camera, and keep it warm if you plan on being in the cold very long.

Help with Canon EOS 5D camera

when you use the full auto mode, the body take jpeg images in sRGB mode. And it create a different folder for those, but perhaps your computer is tune to get THIS folder. So when you leave the full auto mode, the 5D create a second folder for new images. Try to open directly the 5d volume on your computer (in windows, configuration panel, on a mac, it mount automatically on desktop) and go into DCIM folder. see? there is two folders, aleluia.
