Go to start--run--type devmgmt.msc it will take you to device manager.Hopefully you can see your Cd/DVD rom in there. So right click on it and press uninstall. Dont get scared you will get it again itself in next reboot.
IF you dont see it in there, it means there is something wrong with your drive or check if connections are loose or something

Here are the solution for Vista/Windows 7
click start button, type device manager in the start search box and hit enter key.
in device manager, click
+ sign next to Cd-Dvd Rom devices.
right click on cd-dvd driver and select uninstall
the driver will be missing
now run the FIXIT software provided in the following weblink
i hope it will fix the issue. if not, you should delete upperfilter or lowerfilter or both in registry editor. steps are provided in the same weblink
