What is "Printer spooler service "?

You typically install drivers AFTER clicking ADD A PRINTER, not before. And you do it only at the request of the computer! If it is a plug and play printer and if both your computer and printer are recent models, then simply plug in the USB cord and the computer should recognize the printer automatically.

If it is not plug and play, you will have to install drivers but you do that only after clicking ADD A PRINTER. And after clicking Add a printer, you wait for the computer to prompt you for the drivers. Choose to load it from a disc (if you have such) or from where you downloaded it to your computer (from the manufacturer's website.)

If you have no printer symbol, the printer has not been recognized by the computer. The spooler service is a Windows service that must be running before a printer can operate. But it is unlikely that you have to manually start that service! It is more likely that printer has not been recognized because the drivers have not yet been installed properly. This is why you get your error message about a spooler not running. The spooler process will run only after the printer has been recognized and that requires proper installation of the drivers.

You might go to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers for your particular printer and operating system from there.

Sometimes, the difference between success and failure is merely just when you attached the USB cord between the printer and the computer during installation! In some instances, you may have to wait to attach the cord until you have run all the installation software or when the computer prompts you. I suspect you will not presently find the printer listed in devices in device manager.

Good luck!

Printer spooler service not running

The spooler is not on your printer it is in the Windows folder on your computer and is used to hold documents whilst preparing to print.
Normally this service is set to start automatically and there are a number of reasons why it may of stopped but try this:
Right click on "Computer" in your Menu and then left click on "Manage".
In the page that appears click "Services and applications" and Click "Services"
Navigate down to "Print Spooler" and double click on that line.
A box should appear showing properties of the Spooler.
It should show
"Startup Type = Automatic"
"Service Status = Running"
If neither of these are true then change the Startup type to Automatic
and click on the "Start Button"
The service will then either start or tell you why it cannot start.

I cannot print from my computer. There seems to be printing locked in my printer .this is blocking me from printing any documents from on line

Until you are part of domain network or nothing new installed related to firewall printing might not be blocked. You can check for 2 things to make sure software side is not of problem
1. Printer driver is installed ( to check go to start->settings->printer and faxes and see if the printer driver is listing there or not, if it is there make sure that one is your default printer)
2. Print spooler service is running or not. ( If you are not able to find any drivers in printer and faxes, then for sure you print spooler service is not running, to start print spooler click on start->go to run-> type "services.msc" and hit enter, on the right side of service window search for print spooler service, double click and click on start to start the spooler service.

If above doesnt solve the problem, check followings

1.Make sure all cables are connected proper and there are no loose ends on both side, printer and computer side.
2. Make sure there are no errors on printer ( led's indicating error message)
3. If in network, make sure proper IP address and proper driver is installed and you are able to reach the ip address by pinging. ( goto run->type cmd>hit enter> type ping followed by ip address, it should generate reply )

b. Hit Ok.
c. Click Start > Run, and on the entry field, type in "net start spooler".
d. Hit Ok.

Hi i have aprob my computer say the printer spooler cannot running error 1068

Check for other Service Dependencies A 1068 is a service dependency error. Print Spooler can't start because it thinks a service it depends on is not running.

shortcut: start-run-"services.msc"

Go into services and check its dependencies, it should just be the RPC service, which you shouldn't be able to stop, check that RPC is running

Double click print spooler and click the dependencies tab. See if there are any other dependencies set besides rpc. If so you will want to find them in services and make sure they are set to automatic and are running (will probably need to start them).

Then try to start "Print Spooler" service, should work. May need to reinstall printer drivers then.

Can't reinstall printer- ''print spooler is not working''

If you have the windows disk for it , Save everything important to disks.  Put WIndows  disk into machine and tell it to install. It will find you version and ask if you wish to repair it, Say yes.   If you have Xp pro just "Restore" computer to the date before the problem started. If you have neither one. Save you work and then reinstall everything using your backup disks.

Print spooler

To prevent the spooler from stopping, which is usually caused by invalid printer drivers left on a computer.

Go into "Printers and Faxes" delete all printers which no longer exist by right click --> delete

To restart the spooler :-

click start --> run
type net spooler start click ok
or
click start --> run --> services.msc --> click ok
scroll down to print spooler --> right click on it and select start

Go to the services and check to see that the print spooler is started.
If you don't know how to find Windows Services in Windows XP, click on Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Services. Scroll down to print spooler. click on start or set it to automatic.
