Enter safe mode, reduce resolution, reboot?
If not, then this is not a monitor problem.

Hello, my lg flat screen monitor appears to work at start of computer powerup, since I can the "dell..." etc. but then after 3 seconds fades to black. When I click on the buttons on the side...

Since the monitor is working, it sounds like the computer is not booting up. See if you can get it to boot up by pressing F8 during the DELL screen (before it fades to black) (you may have to press F8 repeatedbly)... this should take you to a screen for Windows startup options. Choose Safe Mode and see if you computer starts up completely. If it will start up into safe mode, then there is a driver or something that is preventing windows from starting normally. Have you added any software or hardware recently before this happened? If so, while in safe mode remove any software that you've recently added and see if you can start Windows normally after that. If not, right click on the My Computer icon (either on the desktop or in the Start menu) and choose Manage from the pop-up menu. Click on Event Viewer. Depending on whether you are using Windows XP or Vista or 7, the following will differ slightly.

Under Event viewer, look into the System and Application logs for errors to see what is causing the computer to stop loading. Let me know what you find so I can help you troubleshoot further.

Monitor says out of range

1. Turn off the computer.
2. Turn on the computer.
3. As soon as it starts up press and tap the F8 key.
3a. If a "boot menu" appears, select hard drive, press enter, and immediately press the F8 key again.
4. The safe mode menu should appear. If it does not, start over.
5. Select "Enable VGA mode".
6. The computer will now boot to native 640 x 480 resolution. You may now use the display properties to set it back to normal, within your monitor's range of course :c)

Thanks and please take a moment to rate this solution with a thumbs up, solved problem rating...after all I did just prevent your death :c) THANKS

I have LG 700S 17" Monitor

Try tapping f8 when you start your computer and when at the MS startup menu choose
  • Enable low resolution video (640x480)
  • and if windows starts update your video driver and that should fix the problem, when you restart more than once the options go back to default (not low res video, whatever video driver is installed)

Windows XP not fitting full on 22 inch computer screen

Your new monitor will show a "native resolution". In the instructions below, try that setting first. If that fails try other settings.

    - Right-click on an empty spot on your desktop
    - Chose "Properties" on the menu that appears
    - Click the "Settings" tab (at the top right)
    - Move the "screen resolution" slider to a different number
    - Click "apply"
    - See how you like it
    - Repeat until you get a setting you like.

No Display - Screen says "NOT SUPPORTED"

    Turn your computer on.
When the boot screen cahnges to black start pressing F8
You should get a Windows startup screen
If you see the Windows Logo loading page, then hit the reset button and tray again.
On the Windows Start page, select Safe mode.
Press enter twice and Windows will load
Go into display properties (right click on the desktop and you will see it on the menu)
A box will pop up, select the last tab (Display Properties) there will be a slider on the left side. Move it left to around 800x600.
Select apply and then close the window.
Restart Windows normally and it should be fine.

If not, post back and we will try something else.
    Hope it helps =)

    Monitor

When your computer is starting up, hit F8 and you'll see the safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. screen...You should see a choice that says "enable vga mode". Select that and windows will start and the os will select a screen resolution for you. After that, everything will work fine...I hope.

    Good Luck!

What operating system do you use? If it is a windows OS press F8 while the system is booting to access the Boot Manager, choose to boot to last known good configuration and if this does not work retry but select safe mode and change the resolution back to the previous one.
