I was watching TV when it made a loud pop and quit working, I unplugged the set and checked the main fuse, all OK. I checked for power at the main board where the cord goes into and along other areas at the red & black wires. I have power, but the unit still won't turn on.I forgot to add it makes a strange noise too, kind of like a CD drive turning/rubbing. I am not familar with TV electronics (cars yes, tv's no), is there any online manuel or diagram showing me the parts layout and location. By reading these fixes here sounds like I may have a HV flyback tranformer problem. Could this be my problem. My Model # is 50700, production date 08/99 I will add my s/n# later. All of this happened right after my power came back on after gettiing knocked out from Gustav! Thanks

Check the lamp.
Pull it out and look at it.
More than likely the lamp has shattered inside the set and needs replaced.
Bulb replacement is made for consumers and can easily be replaced.
Need any more information, respond to this post and I will reply.
Hi, It seems lamp/ bulb popped again, check lamp inside tv. If tv does not show red blinking light then it would be lamp that knocked off, replace lamp in tv to fix its problem, please buy Sony original lamp for good picture in tv. Let me know if you have additional question. Thanks.
first. unplug the set for 5 minutes and see if it will reboot. if it does not the you have 2 problems, the chassis is also bad. next open the lamp door cover, it is behind the speaker grill, and behind the lamp door. take out the lamp and see if it has broken on the inside if it has it needs to be replaced. mits will send you one i believe it is about 100.00 the number is 915P020010. if the lamp looks ok then the color wheel has probably fallen apart.if this is the case the light engine need to be repaired. check out www.tv-techs.com
sounds like the sound amplifyer IC in the set went bad and it holding down or blew out the voltage regulator. If your a tech first thing I would do is find the sound output IC and disconnect the main b+ lead and see if the tv will come on. if it did I would replace the audio output IC. If it didnt i would have to troubleshoot the Power supply for the missing voltage. if your not a tech its not advised to try to do this repair as there are no user serviceable parts inside this set. Seek A Pro to assist in this repair as there is hi voltage in this set even when its unplugged. Good Luck
