Question about IBM ThinkPad T43 Notebook

1 Answer

Think pad fails to "start"

- The ThinkPad starts up
- The H disk is spinning
- I get the option to press "Access IBM" buttom
- Whether I press this buttom or not - I just get the start screen with "IBM ThinnkPad" and the Pentium Advert.- nothing else.
- I tried "everything" incl taking the battery out and restart

Any ideas??

    WIN XP PRO was installed. Since I can not get access - I can not check if it is still present!

    T43 (1872-4AU) laptop does not seem to boot (after power sequence) and the screen goes black and tries to reboot again (without any clear message or indicator). Only Z power button stays on and it keeps cycling thru trying to startup.

    Note:
    I replaced the HDD with a good one just before this whole sudden non-start problem started.
    I checked the memory too and it seems all good.
    Cleaned the keyboard as well and checked fan crud, etc.
    Seems like I still get the same type of problem.

    Is there an internal CMOS battery or something that needs to be replaced after many years of usage?

    regards,
    Vpax

Where is a free download for User Manual for T40 IBM Think Pad?

A User's Guide is not available in PDF file form, or hard copy.

ThinkPad's are preloaded with the Access Help application, which contains information similar to that which would be included in a User's Guide.

1) System locations, views, and connections.

2) How to setup, configure, and customize your settings including;

A) Power Management
B) Networking
C) Wireless
D) Display Settings

3) Enable system protection including;

A) Virus Protection
B) Recovery Techniques
C) Security Software
D) General Maintenance

You can access this application by pressing the appropriate button on the top left of your Keyboard;

1) ThinkVantage button
2) Blue Access Help button
3) ThinkPad button

IBM Thinkpad Model 2652 - Will not start up. It says "Cannot find OS". Windows XP Professional is the Operating System that I have running on it. Is there anywhere that I can get a Recovery...

you can get recovery disks from http://www.bootdisk.com/ although if it's just started saying that you have no OS and you are sure you didn't wipe the machine yourself, i think you might have a failing HDD, especially as its such an old model.

Trying to reformat my ibm think pad from safe mode any thoughts on how to do this with out the disc?

Hello.

Often, IBM systems have a partition that restores your system to its original state (factory restore / recovery).

Power off your Thinkpad. Power on and press the F11 key repeatedly when the Thinkpad begins to start up

You should be able to access the partition and the instructions should take you through the process of recover.

Hope this helps.

IBM thinkpad wont work

Try to get hold of a bootable xp pro disk and boot from it, when finished loading the initial drivers and files onto the system gointo the 'R' option recovery console, this is a command line recovery, once there type chkdsk c:/f and press enter let it run its coarse and then restart pc.

Click to "Access IBM" button , Thinkpad Configration window or webpage, Thinkpad Configuration program will appear.
GoTo : Thinkpad Config->Display->On Screen Display

You can see there or it may there on some other option, on this configuration program. It may help you.
