Question about Microsoft Internet Explorer 8

1 Answer

IE8 Problem Downloaded the new IE8, but I have a problem, in a few websites I get this message - "To use this site, you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later". I'm guessing it's a problem with IE8, but is there a way to get around this?

Yup you have 2 choices. Try the compatability mode which you will find on the adddress bar, or uninstall it which I did as I had too many issues with IE8

This is a known issue with IE8 happens a lot. I use another browser a lot of folks do. Try this and see if this resolves the issue for you. Go and download FireFox browser Click Here

Now go and see if you can log into Yahoo, if you cannot log in from there most likely they are down. I'm assuming that you can go to other sites other than Yahoo on IE8 then that kind of tells you where the problem lies not with your Internet Provider.

I just went there and I was able to get there. Thanks for using FixYa! I have not used IE in years cannot stand it to many issues and problems occur on a very regular basis to each their own though. It does seem when you first download the upgrade it will work for a bit it just seems to go haywire after that. John

Hi, I am unable to connect to a number of major websites, the main one being Adobe. I use Windows XP and mainly IE8 but have also tried Safari with no success. I also have a laptop running Vista and that...

1. Check your Firewalls/Security programs if it is blocking any websites.
2. Reset your IE8 back to default settings from "InternetOptions"

Hope it helps.

I downloaded ie8 and had problems with certain websites and my Norton 360 kept coming up with the error "Phishing filter not set". I had no alternative but to uninstall it.

IE8 should not be doing this. When you installed IE8 did you make sure to keep smart screen filter turned off from the beginning? Also, make sure you have the latest version of NIS 2009 (either or installed that support norton. If all else fails try and uninstall IE8 to revert to your previous IE version, fully update norton, and then install IE8 again and make sure when you set the preferences for the first time smart screen filter is turned off.

Hi, Please do the following:
  1. Click on Start button
  2. Click on Control Panel
  3. Click Add/or Remove Programs icon
  4. Click on Change/Remove Programs
  5. Select the ie8 to uninstall it.
Ensure that the ie8 is properly downloaded from the website with proper legal licensing (it is very important that your internet explorer is a legal copy and not a pirated one).
After you download the installer, re-install. It should work this time.

Cannot download Internet Explorer from any site I tried

Under the "Popular Downloads", find:

Windows Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP

If you're running Microsoft Vista, instead click "more"
to find IE8 for Windows Vista.

If you're running Microsoft 7, IE8 is pre-installed.

This may be caused due to the fact that not all websites are "IE8-compatible" (they were designed for earlier versions of IE). So, to browse such websites you can turn on the compatibility feature in IE8 by clicking the Compatiblity View button next to the address bar in IE8.
