Your hard drive is dead mate. sorry. they die form time to time.
buy yourself a new hard drive and an external hard drive caddy (a 3.5" one) make sure the caddy is the right connection for your old hard drive. either sata or ide.
then put the new hard drive into your pc to take the place of your old one, and load windows onto it.
next get your old hard drive into the usb haddy drive caddy/enclosure, connect it all up and see if you can use the ghost function on norton anti-virus secruity to bring back your old data.

hope this helps.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I am have problems booting hdd. I can get into bios only when I have switched the jumper. hdd's are running and ae seen in the bios. why can I not get the hdd's to boot up?

It sounds like you have lost the boot sector on the hard drive.
Try loading your opperating system from your system CD. If it loads OK then run your system CD and choose "Repair System" when prompted.
Hope that helps.

Dell xps400 branched to the weeds on me. can't even load windows 7 install disk. can't even load in safe mode, runs to where the password screen should come up, then nothing. bad hard drive? drvon, thanks

I didn't understand the first sentence but if you can't even start windows 7 cd then there is a hardware issue (most likely not hdd unless it hangs when it is trying to detect the hard drive) as all the software is on the cd vs reading from the hard drive, if you get to the hard drive and 7 sees it but fails on install then hdd is bad, try finding something called bart pe it's a boot disk you can run windows off of the disk and test the hard drive using western digital diagnostics utility. even more rare you may have a dirty lens in the dvd-rom. there are alot of possiblities.

Combo drive not working as well as ON/Off button on CPU not funct

hi i may not be able to help you with the power problem but i do have here a solution on your combo drive and hope it would work
In order to delete upper and lower filters you're going to have to edit the registry. The usual cautions apply. If the registry is not edited properly your whole system can crash.

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone

goodluck!

Can't reboot Compaq/Presario desktop, (power supply is working)

If the system recovery disk doesn't work it usually mans that the hard drive is bad. I would change the hard drive and use the system recovery disk on it after replacement.

No power

dear,
first check power cable and availibility of ac supply from socket.
second thing is that check fan works or completly dead system.
check when u switch its power button, the fan of back supply runs, even for a moment or not.
if nothing happened then check have u set the jumper for power on, reset hdd led, are at their own places in the motherboard or not.. read manual for its settings.
moreover, if all are ok and the system is stilling not working then disconnect all the power and data cables to hard driver and other drives like cd, dvd and switch it on after confirmation that only power cable to motherboard is connected..
regards,

dont forget to rate, if functional
