When I log on to my computer and does a automatic system check I receive no errors but when but a disk in the drive the lights come on like they are trying to scan the disk but it wont read. When I got to My Computer there's no icon for the cd player. I ran a virus check on my whole computer, how can I fix this problem

Try deleting the IDE channel that the drive resides on, from within 'device manager' and restart your system. WinXP will redetect the drive and reinstall the IDE drivers. This has been known to resolve this issue in some cases.
If that fails, try shutting down your system, unplug the data and power cables from the rear of your drive and restart. Then shut down again and plug the cables back into the drive and restart again. WinXP will redetect the drive and reinstall the IDE drivers for it. This is like the first solution, but does a better job of clearing any previous registry or system data for your drive about your drive.
If these fail, report back with a better explanation of what your drive can and cannot do or read. Also include a Nero Infotool(in my sig) output. Run the tool, then click the diskette icon in the infotool toolbar and save as a .txt file, making sure all 8 boxes are checked. Attach to post using the 'manage attachments' button in the 'go advanced' reply window. Please do not cut-and-paste it into your post as it is a long file.
