Warning, the link is a little flakey. Since this is an older system, I think they have the docs on an old server somewhere. You may have to try it serveral times before connecting.

Both CPUs should be the same but there do appear to be instructions for upgrading to 933Mhz processors.

I think that I deleted the petition for which my computer was running

If the computer does not boot, you will need to boot it with a bootable CD or USB and see whether you can still see the drives on your hard disk. Then you can back up the data if you see them, and then restore the system. There are some hard disk maintenance tools you might get from windows server 2000 resource kit or those hard disk manufacturers with which you can retrieve the data from hard disk if you know exactly how big the partitions are. You can use those to back up the data and reconstruct the partitions but those might be kind of complicated to use.

While Booting My Desk top Precision 360 of DELL.I have SeagateST373453LW SCSI Hard disk.At start up disk is recognised but capacity is not. If I am Verifying or Formatting my drive throug Ctrl/A for...

There are a couple of things here..

First I am going to assume this is the LSI card that came with the Dell.

1. Since it is a RAID card, the formatting you are seeing may be referring to the RAID structure. Does the configuration utility ask you what format to be make the drive (i.e FAT, FAT32, NTFS, etc.)? If not, it may be doing that type of format. Also, you did not mention a second drive so the controller may be getting confused. If you have a boot disk/cd rom for the operating system you wish to load, try booting the disk. In a lot of cases, the operating system will format the drive to a particular format.

2. Make sure your controller and drive are not on the same channel. A lot of cards auto assign this but since the Dell has a 2003 date, its worth checking.

3. I've seen drives detected before but not usable. It had to do with the SCSI cable and termination. If this is the SCSI card and hard drive that came with the computer, this may not be an issue (assuming it worked previously).

Long periods of hard drive activity

Most likely, it could be the amount of ram you have in your computer. If your running low on ram and it is using the virtual memory your computer can be running all the time causing a slow down in whatever you do. Check to see how much ram you have :)

Hello , i have Windows Vista home premium edition installed in my HP laptop , i tried to connect USB external hard disk (containing Windows Server 20003 ) to my laptop USB port . means i want USB...

I do not believe that server 2003 is able to be ran from a USB device, I may be wrong, but I doubt it. To see what the error message is, you can be ready when it pops up and push your Pause/Break button on your keyboard, this should freeze the screen so you can see exactly what it says.
How did you install the server o/s to the external drive?

If you have windows XP, look for them in your computer by going to My computer>Local Disk C>Documents and settings.
You should see your user folder there. If you open it, you should find your documents.

If you have Vista, look in Computer>OS C:>Users.

I have a maxtor 6L080M0 hard drive that has crashed The return code is 7 Is there any way to fix this problem.

If the following determines you have hard drive failure then you may have to purchase a new HD. Follow what is recommended from the manufacturer below. READ EVERYTHING.

According to Seagate the makers of Maxtor, you have a DiamondMax 10 (6L080M0). See below or click here

My internal hard drive may be defective, how can I test it?

Question

My internal hard disk drive may be defective, how can I test it?

How can I determine if the problem is with my system or with the hard drive?

It is necessary to run the SeaTools, SeaTools Enterprise, or SCSIMax diagnostic before contacting Technical Support 1.800.SEAGATE (1.800.732.4283) on an internal drive that may be defective.

Answer
For Seagate or Maxtor (or Quantum) ATA drives:

If this is a Seagate or Maxtor (or Quantum) ATA or SATA drive, please download the SeaTools for DOS diagnostic to test it. If the drive is failing, the tests in SeaTools for DOS will indicate as such.

If the BIOS does not recognize the drive or the drive does not spin please reference Answer ID: 48

The operating system will not recognize a drive that is not formatted and partitioned. If you need help with formatting:

  • Windows 9x and ME reference Answer ID: 3076
  • Windows 2000 Answer ID: 880
  • Windows XP Answer ID: 3361
  • Windows Vista Answer ID: 3844
  • Macintosh Answer ID: 492

    For Seagate SCSI drives:
Please download the SeaTools Enterprise Edition diagnostic.

For Maxtor (or Quantum) SCSI drives:
    Please download the SCSIMax diagnostic.

SeaTools, SeaTools Enterprise, and SCSIMax will test your S.M.A.R.T-compliant ATA, SATA, or SCSI disk drive for media defects, perform a read test, physical head test and ensure the hard drive is functioning correctly.

If all the tests pass (no trouble found), the problem remains elsewhere in your system. Reconfirm all settings for hard drive jumpers, cables, and ATA, SATA, or SCSI controllers, and disk operating system. Consult your host controller documentation or system manufacturer for assistance with SCSI termination or ATA / SATA controller capabilities.
