Question about PC Desktops

I have a speedstream modem and it is causing static in the phone line. There are filters fitted to all three phones on the line. If I unplug the modem the noise disappears. Do I need a new modem? Any suggestions welcome. Thank you.

Contacted Bigpond And was advised that I needed a model No C10245m filter.
The filter that I have is C10245e. Hopefully this will cure the problem.

Make sure that you have the filter in the line to the phone as adsl modems create a very high pitch squeel that drowns some phones. I would also change the filter to a new one as these things don't last too long once hit by a spike in the phone system.

Hi I need help with my modem settings. It is siemens speedstream 4200. I am told in forums I need to open ports to solve my problems.. but cannot successfully do it. PS3 will only give a NAT3 connection...

Do you have the device hooke up directly to the speadstream 4200? As the Speedstream 4200 is a modem most companies already have this device in bridged mode because it is largely understood that if this device enters a home it will be shared. That being said do you have a router? if so your task will be that much more easier if you are going to purchase a router please ensure that you buy a good one as gaming can be quite intensive and some routers do not do so well when it comes to this..

Depending on your ISP if you place the PS3 in DMZ you may have to registar the mac address with them before they allow it on the network. As of now they probably have the Speedstream modem registered and this is why you do not have access to online gaming in DMZ.

I have made all connections re 'phone line up to connecting to tower - I can't connect as cable too short - what am I doing wrong? Should I be connecting via the back of the tower? I only have one...

You should have a modem installed in the tower portion of the system. It will have phone jacks. One is marked LINE the other is usually Phone. The Line or Wall jack plugs into the phone jack on the wall. if there is a phone plugged already, unplug it and plug it into the modem jack marked phone. Cord lengths are chosen to suit need. Radio Shack or the like have long cords if needed

While I'me on the internet (adsl), and I receive a call, the internet connection is lost. It takes a few attempts to re-connect it after.

your dsl provide you with filters and these filters must be install on all the phone jacks then the phone connects to that and there is one that has two opens in the filter this one has to be with the modem installe the same way except the phone goes to the phone side and the modem has (assuming your not using comcast that is totally different setup) there is no filter for comcast...

if all filters are installed properly then check the phone and the line that connects them sometimes a phone has 4 pins in them and the regular phone line has 2 pins in the center make sure you are using a 2 oin phone line after you check the phone base to see which one it requires (for comcast this could be your problem)

With broadband connected I can't hear a thing on the phone. We get lots of static, voices are very quiet. I have a phone line splitter on the line.

If you have DSL for your broadband connection, you need a filter on every phone jack. These filters are provided by your DSL provider

I had my grandson hook up the router and all seemed to be working fine, but this morning I found I have no phone service. Can you tell me how to remedy the problem. Thanks, Betty Mahoney email: ...

The router has nothing to do with phone service - it's the modem that's plugged into the phone line. Unplug the modem from the phone line. If you don't get phone service back within 30 minutes, use a different phone to report loss of phone service to the phone company. (Depending on the company, it could take up to 30 minutes for the computers to restore service after a short has been removed.)

If that's the case - that unplugging the modem clears it up, call the phone company's internet tech support number.

When I tried to go online my Compaq Presario SR110nx gave error 680

Error 680--- No dial tone
A) Test modem by dialling a number through HyperTerminal or phone dialler. This will test the Modem without using Dialup Networking.
B) Make sure you are using the correct and/or original cable. Some modems used specific wiring which is not compatible with standard modem cables.
C) Check that you phone line is working with a normal phone.
D) Make sure the phone line you are trying to dial on is not a non-standard line, this can cause problems also.
E) If all the above are OK then get a new modem or test in a different location.

Lost internet connection. I use BT Voyager 190 ADSL modem on AOL with WIndows Vista. Power and Thernet indicator lights are on solid, but DSL and Internet indicators are off.

Sounds like there is a issue with your phone line. The DSL indicator is the phone line. Check to see if you have a dial tone or if a message is on the phone you haven't listen too, if you have message service. Try unplugging all phone connections as and replug them in again. You also might need a filter for your DSL to phone line. Also if you have an alarm that is monitoring your system, you need to by pass alarm and use a filter.
