Picture problem on Panasonic Plasma tv

It looks like you are saying standard definition pictures do not cover the screen like HD pictures do. Standard def is formatted 4:3 and high def is 16:9. They are not the same so your high def screen is made to display the not as tall but wider high def picture. In order to fill the screen with the taller and not as wide 4:3 aspect ratio std def picture you must tell the TV to stretch the picture or otherwise fill the screen. The TV will have controls you can exercise for this purpose and you can set it up to always show std def in a particular manner. The alternative, if you want the standard Def picture to look true to form, is to view standard def in Letter Box form. It's appearance will then include black panels on the sides of the picture. So the problem is not with the TV but in accepting older format pictures playing on newer format displays (TVs.)

Cant hook up my ps3 to the tv ? tried all 3 input outlets and nothing tried hooking it up with a dvd player and still nothing ?

The ps3 has 2 output modes, hdmi and composite or component. For example if you started with composite and switched to hdmi the screen would show up black. The way to select the dif output is to press and hold the power button until you hear a second beep, this should put it on the proper output. Hope this helps and is the only thing I can think of if your tv is properly working.

I have an Emerson 42in flat screen lcd. It has 3 hdmi ports, a pc port, etc. What I need is an audio out port and the only audio out port is the Digital audio out. My ps3 and xbox 360 are hooked up through...

If you have a home theatre system, most receivers have a digital audio input that you can use and hook that up to the digital audtio output on your TV. I have the same TV, and this is how I am doing it.

The other option is to get a new receiver that supports HDMI, and feed you HDMI into the receiver and then use the HDMI out from the receiver to the TV.

These are about the only options you have.

I cannot change between tv, ps3 etc all of a sudden. Also my tv is working without the receiver being plugged in but the picture sucks And it's a high def plasma. I also get a picture saying my tv does...

Turn off the HDMI Control under Setup - Hardware - HDMI- turn of the TV and Pass true control. if you tv is not RHID compliant this will cause you issues.
Good luck.

Sounds like you just want audio I would just use the optical audio from the PS to the Denon and assign and input and you;ll have PS video and audio on your tv and just audio at the Denon

Denon AVR 2800 digital hookup to PS3

If your TV has an HDMI input, hook up the PS3 w/an HDMI cable to the TV. This will give you a high def picture (set up the PS3 to output the max resolution your TV displays). That will take care of the video side.

Next hook up an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver. In the PS3 menu, you have to change the audio settings to output the sound via the optical cable.

Finally to get sound out of the receiver to the speakers, you have to setup the receiver source input. For example if you setup the PS3 to play thru "VCR" input, then you have to make sure the VCR input is setup to use either optical 1 or optical 2 for sound (whichever one you have the optical cable plugged in from the PS3).
  • I found this solution on a different site... it worked for me. I needed to change the sound settings in my ps3 to optical... then i selected dolby 5.1.... that took care of my sound.
