Getting into the BIOS is one thing, but figuring out what the jumpers and the headers on the Board itself without a Manual is pretty hard.

The BIOS jumper ought to be fairly well identified if it has one, but that might be an issue, as some motherboards do not have one. I have a different COMPAQ motherboard which has no provisions for a corrupted BIOS recovery. Without access to drives, there is no way to rewrite the BIOS.

On some motherboards, the battery is soldered to the motherboard, making it difficult to remove. If this is the case, you have another alternative. Somewhere on the motherboard you should find a jumper that will clear the BIOS password. If you have the motherboard documentation, you will know where that jumper is. If not, the jumper may be labeled on the motherboard. If you are not fortunate enough for either of these to be the case, you may be able to guess which jumper is the correct jumper. This jumper is usually standing alone near the battery. If you cannot locate this jumper, you might short both of the points where the battery connects to the motherboard. If all else fails, you may have to clear the BIOS password by resetting the RTC (Real Time Clock) IC (integrated circuit) on your motherboard. Many RTC's require an external battery. If your RTC is one of this type, you can clear the BIOS password just by unsocketing the RTC and reseating it. RTC's which require external batteries hope this helps

Bios ROM checksum error (Compaq SR5237CL with M2N68-LA MB)

A BIOS checksum error can be caused by a nearly flat BIOS battery.
I would replace the BIOS battery first before attempting to upgrading the BIOS.
Some motherboard BIOS firmware is upgraded by running a program that has been copy to a DOS boot disk or the upgrage maybe done from within the BIOS setup. These firmware upgrage and instructions are on the motherboard WEB site, in your case the Compaq/HP WEB site. Make sure you select the upgrade for your model motherboard.
NOTE it is possible that if you make a mistake you could ruin your motherboard, if you are not sure seek help from a computer savy friend.

I put a used compaq motherboard in my pc the board #283983-001 for a compaq evo and when it starts loading up it pops a start up password needed screen how do i fix it or remove the password?

find the jumper that will erases the Bios info.

It is usually by the battery, change its position to go onto the pin thats not being used now, turn on computer, wait 10 seconds, switch jumper back to original position, restart...WALAAA...password is erased.

Visit http://www.compaq.com and select the product then download the user's manual. Such informations are usually given in the users mnual. Although Compaq is presently owned by HP, but user support is still there. (ehteshamhusain@gmail.com)

I have motherboard Compaq #277498-001 P5008640WP8N2BSM AS#253242-002 DG#011346 and can't find information for jumpers setting, please for help-marior77@abv.bg

What model does this MB belong to? If it is a newerMB the only jumper settings you should see would be the clear BIOS jumper. Alot of the newer motherboard settings are done thru the BIOS.

Old compaq presario new processor

The AMD K6 II / 350 has a 100 MHz bus speed and a 3.5 multiplier. I was online with a tech at HP and even they don't know, but if they send the motherboard manual as promised and it has the info I'll post a comment. They did say it can't be done in the BIOS. I can tell you often the major manufacturers used boards where the jumper locations were soldered and didn't even have pins to change the settings, making it pretty hard to upgrade the processor.

Do you see any jumpers on the board at all? Sometimes the multiplier & clock speed info is printed right on the board in tiny white letters.

Good luck.

No boot

Hi:
You need the manual.
You also need to know what bios you have.

Take the battery out for 24 hours.

Most motherboards I have worked on will not discharge in only a half hour. You need a lot more time than that.

You can also clear the cmos on the jumpers. Be sure you know which jumpers, otherwise you may damage the board.
By shorting two of three jumpers, the cmos will be cleared to factory settings.
thanks,

Cd rom

Is this a new CD-ROM? Usually if the BIOS cannot see the drive it's a problem with the jumper setting on the back of the drive. Try setting the jumper to cable select. Let me know if that helps.
