Hi,
You would have to get in touch with the Linksys , to get the card activated first, if the card is activated then you need to call your interenet service provider , for the network password.

Thanks

I have netgear wireless router. My grandchild friend brought over her laptop and connected wireless. Now it comes up her name. it used to say netgear 5. then it asks for WPA password

Sounds like someone renamed the router and gave it a password from within the Router settings. You will need to ask the people that were messing with it what the password is. Or you could do a factory reset on it to remove the password. Note: It is best to have a password for it in order to connect to it. Otherwise others will be able to connect to your network, like neighbors and such.

I need a Key code

When you initially configure the wireless interface in the router, you:
* set a SSID, a "name" for your wireless network,
* set an encryption-level. Hint: use 'WPA' or 'WPA2',
* set a password (or "key-code") for your network.

So, configure the router, and then use that SSID/password with your 802.11B wireless adapter to connect to your wireless network.

I have a lynksys router. It will work with our mac, but if i try to get online with my pc, neiter will connect or if one is connected, it will disconnect. can i fix this

Hi,

I see that you are having issues with your network connection, I believe that you are trying to connect wireless on both systems.

* Check your Linksys for settings that limit the routers wireless connection, most wireless routers have an option on how many computers can connect wireless to the router, a wireless signal does not chose what OS to allow for a wireless connection.

* get in your Linksys Routers Setting page from IE or Firefox using your Default gateway IP from there on you can check your Routers settings, user name depends if your internet service provider changed the Routers user name and password but for a Linksys try admin / password or admin / admin for the User name and Password field.

Hope this helps you thanks and have a good day.

I need help to get my sons xbox working with a wireless adapter

Hi Joanne,

If the wireless adaptor is the one shown in your picture, you simply plug it in the back in the USB slot.

Configure your wireless settings loadTOCNode(2, 'whattotry');
  1. Go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  2. Select Network Settings.
  3. Select Configure Network.
  4. On the Basic Settings tab, select Wireless Mode.
  5. Select Scan for Networks.
  6. Select your wireless network name. If your wireless network is not listed, select Specify Unlisted Network and enter your wireless network name.
  7. Enter your wireless network password, and then select Done.
  8. Press B on your controller to retest your connection.
Kind regards

Have wireless pc in kitchen with this connected. Just upgraded my old Linksys to D-Link N router the pc in the kitchen will not connect now. Any help? Thanks

- you need to hard a pc to your new DLINK router by using a cat 5/6 cable (aka ethernet cable).
- open your web browser (IE, Mozilla)
- access control panel of dlink by typing on the address bar http://192.168.0.1
- Select Admin from the drop-down menu and then enter your password. Leave the password blank by default.
- go to wireless settings...Check the box to enable the wireless function. If you do not want to use wireless, uncheck the box to disable all the wireless functions.
- Service Set Identifier (SSID) is the name of your wireless network. Create a name using up to 32 characters. The SSID is case-sensitive.
- Start the wizard.(wireless wizard)
- follow the steps
- I should recommend using wpa tkip
- please remember the NETWORK KEY...this is your password

for your linksys..

make sure the device driver is properly install. use the linksys program to scan your wireless setup you just made. then connect...

hope this helps

Limited or no Connectivity WG111v2 SBG900

Limited or No Connectivity on Windows XP

Limited or no connectivity indicates that the computer cannot acquire a valid IP address. This is due to incorrect network key you have entered. We need to check the correct WEP key in your router's setup page. Here are the troubleshooting steps we recommend you try:

Note: You need to use a computer hardwired to the router to check the wireless settings.

1. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
2. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field. Please click Enter or Return key.
3. A window will prompt for a user name and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password".

Note: If it does not take password as the password, you might have changed it when you have run the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords. If you cannot remember the password, you need to reset the router and run the Setup CD to reconfigure it.

4. Click on Wireless Settings under Setup page.
5. Take note of the SSID.
6. Scroll down, look for the Security Options and check whether WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) or WPA (Wi-fi Protected Access) is selected.
7. If its WEP is enabled, copy the value of the selected Key number. If WPA is selected, take note of the Passphrase.
8. To configure the computer with wireless adapter, please consider the following:

Configuring the NETGEAR adapter and Saving the Profile

a. Open the NETGEAR Smart Wireless Settings Utility icon located at the lower right portion of your computer screen. It will then open the Settings tab.
b. Change the Network Name SSID to match the one on your router.

Tip: As an alternative to typing in the SSID, you can use the Network tab to view the available wireless networks. Double click on the desired network.

c. Click the Apply button to activate the connection.
d. Enter a name for your profile (e.g. NETGEAR to Home Network) and click the Save Profile button to store the current settings.

Note: The above procedure applies only if you are trying to connect to a wireless network with no wireless security.

If the computer is using Windows built-in wireless program to manage the wireless adapter, please follow the steps below:

For Windows XP Service Pack 1

a. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer. Then click on to View Available Wireless Networks.
b. Click on the Advanced tab.
c. Please delete all the preferred networks then click on OK.
d. Right click on the Wireless icon again and click on View Available Wireless Network.
e. Please select your network and click on Connect. If you have Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or Wi-fi Protected Access (WPA) enabled on the router, it will ask you for the network key. The network key will be the Key or Passphrase you have copied from the router setup (refer to step 7). Please type in the Network Key and then confirm it.
f. Make sure not to enable IEEE and then click on Connect.

For Windows XP Service Pack 2:

a. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer. Then click on to View Available Wireless Networks.
2. Click on the Change Advanced Settings.
3. Click on the Wireless Networks tab remove all the preferred networks then click on OK.
4. Right click on the Wireless icon then click on View Available Wireless Network.
5. Select your network and click on Connect. If you have Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or Wi-fi Protected Access (WPA) enabled on the router, it will ask you for the network key. The network key will be the Key or Passphrase you have copied from the router setup (refer to step 7). Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect.

Note: You may use the wireless utility of your wireless adapter in connecting to the wireless network but you need to clear "Use windows to configure my wireless networks" on the Wireless Networks tab. Please ask assistance from the wireless adapter vendor for configuration if using a proprietary wireless utility (non-NETGEAR wireless adapters).

Wireless connection

You probably need to goto your routers web page and change the name there.

While you are there it is a good idea to setup at least WEP security if you have not done so already.

To get there, usually, while you are connected, you can look at the properties of your connection, and get your default gateway's IP address.

In a web browser, put this IP number of your default gateway into the browser's address bar and click go. It should load your router's administration web page. If it has a password and you dont know what that is then it is probably the default password.

To get the default password for your router, into Google search for example if you has a linksys router, search Google for "linksys default password" this should bring up the default password for a linksys router. usually a combination of "admin/password".

Once logged into the administration web page, the network name is listed under "SSID".
