Philips Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD Recorder
Problem for Philips Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD Recorder

No power at all on my magnavox mwr10D6

I was just using it the other night and when I tried turning it on there was no juice at all to it as I tried another outlet too and used both the remote and holding in the button on the unit. During the previous night my power went off just for second as I heard my PC re-boot and have had worse outages than this and my recorder was OK. What's even worse I have the same exact recorder in the other room and I cant get any power on it as well. This is too weird for both units to not turn on at all. It's out of warranty as I bought them in April 2007 and July 2007. Help???

- I wasn't talking about my PC as I just mentioned that because I knew the power had gone off in my house during the night when I heard it re-boot. Yes I tested all electrical going into my dvd recorder and it is something in the recorder. Can anyone else help?

- You are correct as the repair guy said these boards are not only delicate but cheaply built and he wanted to charge me $48 to fix the power supply on the board and so instead I found another used one online for only $50 including shipping thru amazon.com. So I now have 3 of these and only one working now so far.

Clarification Request

Have you checked your breakers for the outlets, they may look like they are not tripped, but if you flick them off and then back on it can reset them? Have you tried plugging other devices up to those outlets to see if they are functioning properly? Make sure you power down your computer properly and unplug the if from the outlet unless you know exactly which breaker/s control the outlets. If you have the ground fault protection outlets, have you tried hitting the reset buttons?

Same Problem

May 03, 2009

-   Watched a DVD on Wednesday night, and afterwards, went ahead and loaded a second DVD. Decided it was too late, so went on to bed.

On Thursday, we found the power had been out at the house (surge protectors were tripped all over the house and had to be reset). Did not think much about this since power has gone out before.

Tried to watch the second movie on Friday evening, but found unit would not turn on by either remote control or front panel button. I know it was not the power outlet since the TV was also plugged in and was working.

Called Maganox only to be told unit was out of warranty but just a few months. Sad since the unit has hardly been used. I asked how to get a DVD out since the unit would not power up. Person told me "anyway you can." There is not way to open and pull out the tray.

Took the cover off the unit in order to remove my new, yet to be watched DVD. Found a fuse on the main board and checked it. Fuse was ok. Used voltmeter to verify power was available across the fuse (power situation was good).

This unit must have some fragile circuitry. I am very disappointed it failed so easily. Due to the product and the company's lack of support, I will no longer buy Magnavox products. I recommend people steer clear of Magnavox products.-   gwiljr

-   I also had the same problem. It worked great until we had a power outage. I wish this model would have turned off and not go into a standbye mode. Looks like im going to have to buy him newer one this x-mas

-   Just received this unit through woot.com. D.O.A. Frustrating! -   Guest

-   Same problem with my unit, after a power outage. I suspected there might be a fuse inside, so I popped the lid on it, and there it was, a 1 amp 250 volt glass type. I tested the fuse (which looked okay, visually) with my multimeter to see if it was good or bad, but it is good. So, whatever is wrong with the unit is not a simple fix. Considering how much (or really, how little) the unit cost, it isn't worth the time it would take fixing whatever is wrong. BTW, I also metered the voltage across the fuse while plugged in, and it is getting power.

Time to dump it and buy something decent, like a Sony.-   nickstorm

the circuitry built into these units are delicate. I used to work for this company and we got some back like that and were easily tripped like that. HENCE, I USED TO WORK THERE. check if your in 1 year warranty and i can recall you might have to pay a small fee but then they will refund it to you.... its been a year or so since i worked there but i believe its the same.

MWR10D6 DEAD

Mine was because D1063 was shorted. Very important to replace with large power diode. I tried a somewhat smaller diode that failed in about 5min. Replaced with a diode of comparable size and it worked fine.

Same problem here with Dvd recorder. Same make/model, purchased around the same time. Tried the magavox.com troubleshooting, and they don't even have this model number listed. Any help would be appreciated.

My dvd recorder just quit working. No power outage and the outlet is working just fine. I have had this dvd recorder for a little over a year, if this is the quality i can expect from magnavox, then i will buy another brand next time.
